Why Doesn't This Bravo Drive Work?

While testing some new props in the Gulf today (where it's 75 and sunny), the port drive "let go" at 5,000 RPM's. No noises or visible damage: forward simply became neutral.

At first, I thought I must have lost the prop, but it's there. And reverse works fine; just no change when shifting from neutral to forward.

The shift cables look like they're working OK: at least the "good" side and "bad" side seem to be doing the same thing when I move the shifters.

Any one have any ideas about what's going on?

Thanks!

THERE IS A 1 TO 1 1/2 " INCH COLLAR SOMEWHERE NEAR THE CLUTCH CONE, IT'S SMOOTH, CHECK IT FOR CRACKS, MINE DID THE SAME THING AT 90, IT WOULD WORK INTERMITTENT, IT LOOKED GOOD, PULL ON IT AND IT OPENS RIGHT UP

This happened to two drives of mine within three weeks of each other. You will find your problem in the upper gear case. Sorry but this won't be cheap

Mbam 12-18-2002 04:34 PM

As hot water says, it is probably in the upper.

Most likley you broke the floor out of the forward gear. The only good news is that the new style gears don't do that anymore.

Sorry to hear about the problem. I love building the stuff (engines, drives, etc), but fixing it once it is broken is no fun.

Is it fixable, or do I need a new drive?

mopower 12-18-2002 10:05 PM

AP,
You will need a whole new drive...just send me your old one:rolleyes: :D :D .

Just kidding...it should be fixable.

That's the price you pay for being in sunny Fla. I never broke a drive in December:cool:

KAAMA 12-18-2002 10:51 PM

Pete, no expert here, but it sounds like it should be fixable. :)

Kaama

Good. Thanks.
Up until now, I've been bragging about how reliable this boat and engine/drive package has been.
Guess I knew it was too good to be true!

Oh well, it IS a boat, after all.

Where should I send it to get fixed?

Should I do the other drive, too?

What's it going to cost me? And how long?
