Whitey 01-21-2003 09:15 PM

Yzbert,
How is the winter going? Can't wait for summer. How is the gang been? Hope all is well. So what new route are you considering? Last year was a blast once we got "climatized"...lol Later Dwight

KAAMA 01-21-2003 09:51 PM

I am going to try and make that Northern Run this year. I have always wanted to boat up there, but want to do it with other boaters that KNOW the waters because those are unfamiliar waters to me with TONS of BIG, HUGE rocks that are even larger than a boat that hide just underneath the surface way out from the shoreline where you least expect it------I have heard too many HORROR stories of people having their drives TORN OFF from there boats, hull damage and boats that have sunk, etc, etc, etc!

And please don't tell me they're easy to avoid! I know they may be easy , but ANYTHING is easy if you know what you're doing and where you're going! Therefore, I will follow you northern fellers and get the right kinda water learnin' from yall. :D

dyno 01-21-2003 10:35 PM

Kaama dont be a chicken!!!!

kitten 01-21-2003 11:31 PM

That sounds great! Haven't been to Mackinaw since I was little. * Wish I could go. :chick: :chick: :chick:

yzbert 01-22-2003 11:46 AM

hey whitey,

winter is going good, has gotten real cold up here lately. I dont think we will change the route but who knows. i like it the way it is with a little of everything. I am going to delegate some of the work this year though. I am sure it will continue to be nuts.

kaama, we will get you through the rocky parts, last years run was great. we got to "initiate" two new boats and they made it safely.

whitey, the 42 formula is getting three new engines, he wont tell me what though.

scott

Steve A.K.A RAMPAGE 01-22-2003 12:01 PM

Just might be interested in this run....Is the 12th a firm date??? Any idea how long a run it is????1 day or 2???? Also is this a guys only run????Trying to get this years vacation schedule lined up and it looks like it should be 1 week before the Venetian Festival in St. Joe I always hit......
Steve

yzbert 01-22-2003 12:14 PM

12th is a firm date, one day run, stay over night in boats and either boat back around the next day or pull out.

not a guys only run, would have no idea what to do with all the whip cream.

KAAMA 01-22-2003 02:01 PM

yzbert, you make it sound like the new boats that were there for the first time just BARELY made it through the mine field of rocks....like WHEW!---like it way too close of a call or something!

dyno 01-22-2003 06:53 PM

Boy Mark you sure are sounding like a Candy Boy!!!!If I'm not mistaken the shipping channel through the rocks is 3000 ft wide, I think you can even hit that!!! I might make the trip alone if I cant make the date work, but like they say safety is in numbers..... Just stay away from Garden Island it gets ugly around there!

yzbert 01-22-2003 08:02 PM

it wasn't a mine field of rocks kaama, more like a mound of whip cream the new boats had to make it through.

i agree with the 3000 ft shipping lane, the route we take that day doesnt include any short cuts.

Whitey 01-22-2003 10:10 PM

Hi Scott,
So new engines in the Formula.. I wonder, as if he was not fast enough last year..lol
Have you gotten a new boat yet?
Kamma it was an very easy route and there are several channel markers. I was one of the newbies last year and it is a blast except for the ride back we hit very big water. I will probably trailer back next time. Dwight

yzbert 01-23-2003 08:32 AM

that is for the much longer trips and vacation.;)

tmager 01-23-2003 11:05 AM

This trip sounds like fun, I would be interested in joining. If you start in Petoskey and end in Mullet lake, how do you get back to where you started? I'm guessing drive the boat back to Petoskey. I haven't been to Beaver Island in 15 years and Mackinac in 12, sounds like a good trip. How many miles does that cover?

dyno 01-23-2003 11:30 AM

If we all leave our trucks in Petosky can we hitch a ride back to get tucks and trailers.....anyone got a van?or maybe we can rent one.....

yzbert 01-23-2003 12:12 PM

we boat back around, or pick up trailers and pull out.

no need for van plenty of room with cars or can leave truck at destination night before, about 30 min away by land.

110 miles approx by boat.

dyno 01-24-2003 10:23 AM

Thats cool yzbert!!! the wife and I got the friday before off from work so it looks like a go for us!!!!What time do you usually grt back to petosky on Sunday? I think I'll work on Monday....

yzbert 01-24-2003 04:08 PM

it depends if you boat or drive back, early afternoon if you drive, early afternoon if you boat.
look forward to meeting up, should have all info by march this year. will keep in touch

scott

dyno 03-20-2003 10:52 AM

any new info Scott???

Cord 03-20-2003 12:00 PM

Are you guys planning on going throught the inland passage? I've always wanted to make that trip. Why not just boat back?

yzbert 03-20-2003 12:26 PM

not yet, promise I will sit down in the next couple of weeks and get it done. have to talk to caterer, etc.

inside passage?

Cord 03-20-2003 01:06 PM

Yea, you launch from Petoskey go through Burt and Mullett lakes and end up in Cheboygan. Supposed to be a really nice day trip.

yzbert 03-20-2003 08:41 PM

you would have to launch in crooked lake and go up through the crooked river, burt lake, indian river, mullett lake, and cheboygan river. crooked is close to petoskey, but not in petoskey. if you launch in petoskey you have to go up and around and do the reverse trip. crooked lake, crooked river pretty shallow, wouldnt want to do it with a big boat.

dyno 03-21-2003 07:17 AM

and Cord its alot of no wake....major put-put scotts route is way better!

Bayley 03-21-2003 07:55 AM

The Inland waterway was fun with the old 16 foot aluminum boat, but anything with twins would be a handful in the rivers. The rivers are supposed to be maintained to 20 feet minimum width at a minimum depth of 5 feet. However, if you need all the depth of 5 ft, you will be hogging the center of the channel and the current will make it a chore to keep the boat straight.

Don't get me wrong, I've taken my 32' Dominator through the Inland water way before and had no problems. I just don't care for the hour long idles through the rivers. Back when my boat cruised at a blinding 20 mph, The Lakes were a LOT longer and a nice break from the rivers. Now a days, while cruising at 60 - 70 mph, the lakes go by in the blink of an eye. If you are curious, you should try it at least once!

-Bayley

Cord 03-21-2003 07:57 AM

Ok. Well, I guess that I can scratch that trip off the to-do list.

tmager 04-11-2003 12:11 PM

Any planning happening for this trip, yet?

yzbert 04-11-2003 04:36 PM

trip is on for sat. the 12th of july.

4th Annual Northern Michigan
POKER / FUN RUN 2003
JULY 12

This is not an organized event or poker run. We are doing this for fun with both new and old friends and travel as a group. You are responsible for your own actions and your own crew. The last three years there have been eight boats of us with fun had by all, this year we are at 12 right now and it sounds like we are going to add to that number. Remember you are all responsible for your own safety, course, and ability to follow all Coast Guard regulations. We are a group of friends spending the day on the lake together and as we all know **** can and will happen out there, so use good judgment and be safe. One card will be picked up at five locations: Bay Harbor, Beaver Island, Mackinac Island, Cheboygan and Grandview Beach on Mullett Lake, unlike the past two years we will try and tie up together near Mackinac Island and have a quick lunch, so bring one. Cheboygan will be the gas stop again if needed, ha. Cards will be dealt when the last boat arrives in each harbor. We will resume immediately after the deal. The course may be modified for inclement weather, like it was three years ago. Hopefully it will be sunny and flat like it was last year and not so rough that we are passed by any yachts. Please also remember the deck of a boat is very slippery when you spill whip cream on it, so please be sure to lick it all off for safety.

Departure from the Bay Harbor Marina will be 9:00 am sharp!
Departure from Mullett Lake on Sunday will be no later than noon, all boats left past noon will have their plugs removed and sunk. Lets try and refrain from the naked dancing and peeing off the back of our boats once we arrive at our destination as well.

Dinner and beer will be provided at Mullett Lake. Most will be staying the night in boats, tents etc.

Poker hands will be $ 20 per hand (enter as many times as you want). Last years winner bought five hands. Non-boat owners need to split winnings with the captain of their boat, thus if you win there is no such thing as a free ride. last the prize was $500.

do not know the cost of everything yet, have not got quote from caterer, or came up with party favors yet.

last year it was as follows, should be similar

KAAMA 04-11-2003 07:06 PM

Sounds like it will be fun----I have my GPS with a Lake Michigan chip and it covers Mullet and Burt Lakes! That chip is way cool----makes boating much more interesting and fun! :)

dyno 04-11-2003 07:32 PM

Deal me and the wife in!

yzbert 04-12-2003 04:47 AM

look foward to having you dyno, i'am going to call great lake in the morning about getting a slip for smoke on the water weekend.

kaama the chips are awesome, i dont leave home without it. i talked to rampage the other day and he said you two may make it up?

scott:)

KAAMA 04-12-2003 10:46 PM

Scott, I DEFINATEY plan on making it up for the Northern run unless there is just absolutely no way I can do it. I have ALWAYS wanted to boat up there in those waters where the scenery is awsome and the waters are super/clear blue! I'm looking forward to it for sure! We will probably have some sort of a caravan/convoy of boats trailering up there from those with boats around this area or those who're passing through by our way and we will try and link up with them for the trip North. Sounds like this thing will be lots of fun----it's always more fun when there's a few other boats joining in. :)

tmager 04-15-2003 07:03 AM

I plan on being up for this trip, my mother and two boys will be on Beaver Island that weekend, so they should get a thrill seeing us come in the harbor.

yzbert 06-20-2003 10:28 AM

everyone let me know by phone please, inbetween houses right now, do not check board much
