How and When did you hear about OSO?

I've been a member now for 2 years since Jan 2001 after lurking for several months not realizing what charter members was about.
I can't remember how I first heard about OSO back in sept-oct '99. Help me remember, Was it from a 'boat' search, junk email, How did OSO come to my attention?
OSO is now an everyday part of my life.

Playn 01-02-2003 07:20 PM

I lurked for a while then joined in Jan 01 as well. I can't remember how I found the board though but am glad I did:D

We've met some great people from this board (thanks Jeff & Steve for all your hard work, time, and $ putting this together and maintaining it)

GO4BROKE 01-02-2003 07:20 PM

I found it from a link at another site, I don't remember which now.

Keith 01-02-2003 07:21 PM

I heard about it from within my own club, but apparently didn't make the cutoff as a Charter Member. I believe it was insptech who turned me on to it, so I blame him for the addiction. :D

VelocityMike 01-02-2003 07:48 PM

I was talking to a friend of mine on the phone and he was talking about the website. Since that day I looked it up I am hooked.

PhantomChaos 01-02-2003 07:56 PM

I wish I never did hear about this stupid site. ;) ;) :puppy:

florida gator 01-02-2003 07:58 PM

I heard about it about 5 minutes before getting addicted to it. Anyone recommend a good rehab? I guess not or you wouldn't be here. Unless you relapsed.

Heard about it from Donzi.net

Another site.. www.winnipesaukee.com last May(2002)

Allan4 01-02-2003 09:57 PM

Member Ittlfli introduced it to me, I joined in June '01. Almost 1600 posts later I am.......just damn glad to be here...:D :D ;)

Ted G 01-02-2003 10:31 PM

I was looking on wreck.boats (C'mon, I know a lot of you used to;) ) and someone posted about hanging here instead. After 2 or 3 days I never clicked on wreck.boats again. Addicted-OH YEAH I check it before and after work, during paperwork at night, and just before turning in.:o

puder 01-02-2003 11:30 PM

searching for potential new boats google picked up the origonal HTML boats for sale page. I checked out the whole site and the first thread i poste don was a controversial one about that years NYC race (the first one I ever went to). I made my opinion known and the rest is history. I think i racked up about 30 posts my first OSO session.

Ted G 01-02-2003 11:35 PM

And after the first hundred or so we started to figure out what you were trying to say:D :D :D

It's all puderspeak you know;) :D

I was introduced late in 2000 and lurked under Offshore Score. Joined shortly after we got married in Feb. 2001 and love it. Thanks guys.

Iggy 01-03-2003 05:23 AM

It was two years ago today that I was surfing around some boating sites and found a link to this place.
My Boss has regreted it since. I spend more time here than doing my work.:D :D :D :D

God, I love this place.:D :D

ccarloss 01-03-2003 05:51 AM

I found the link on Yahoo while searching for performance boat sites. I stop by a couple times a day at least.

Pete B 01-03-2003 06:01 AM

I found it looking for performance boat sites. and of course i am a charter member.

Sydwayz 01-03-2003 06:19 AM

The week I bought my boat; around May 5, 2001; I started storing my boat in Northern Virginia; and I met CheckmateF1/Eric, a Charter Member; who had the only other go-fast there at the storage place.
I am forever indebted to this guy, for 1st introducing me to this site; second, teaching me just about everything I know about powerboating; and third saving me a BUNCH of money over the past 2 years.
Unfortunately, Eric and Katy have sold their boat, and are moving to TX to start a 4-Wheeler, DirtBike, and PWC, Tuning and Performance Shop with family.

Indy 01-03-2003 08:03 AM

An add in Powerboat

Payton 01-03-2003 08:10 AM

I found it while searching for a place to sell a boat before there was a board, just the clasifieds. After the boat was gone for several months, I was checking some old bookmarks and founds they added a forum. I've been here ever since.

Wally 01-03-2003 08:16 AM

found this place when still in its infantsy...lurked for about a whole 2 hrs and posted...been down hill ever since! :D :D

R Addiction 01-03-2003 09:39 AM

My infamous brother .....IKE!!!:p

DJD 01-03-2003 09:44 AM

I found it back in the very beginning (member#7) while doing a search for Offshore Performance boat parts.
I quickly spread the word to friends, poker run pals and everyone I knew on the race circut.

McGary911 01-03-2003 10:42 AM

Someone mentioned it on Donzi.net. I lurked for a long time, then needed to say something (forget what). I don't have time to even approach post bimbo, but if you check the logged on members list at the top, you'll be surprised how often im around. Learning a bit more every day.

Uncle Toys 01-03-2003 11:04 AM

I had just taken my first ride on a fast boat and was bugging a friend at work for information (He had a 50' NorTech). Finally he got tired of answering my questions and turned me on to this site.

Since, he has sold his go fast and bought a fatty. Now he doesnt post here anymore. Ode to Warbird, our lost brother!

MnFastBoat 01-03-2003 11:11 AM

its been so long I do not remember how I found this site :)
I am just greatful that I did for all the information and friends I have met.
Great place, best wishes that it stays forever :)
I know i lurked for a month or two, then when iwnter set in i signed up for posting reasons.

T2x 01-03-2003 11:24 AM

After my TV career....I had to write somewhere....and so far Powerboat hasn't been smart enough to give me a column........
Figuring, as they do, that you would rather read "Hapless nitwit makes fool of himself at Mercury 300X assembly line"................. then my little gems..........;)

blown formula 01-03-2003 11:34 AM

:D I heard about this site from my mechanic in the back woods of Oklahoma.... I have hardly left it at all... even bought a laptop for weekends away! Hooked good!

Roger 1 01-03-2003 01:13 PM

My friend''CASHBRAIN'' told me about it and then kept after me until I registerd. There is no cure and OSO is either own support group ar a bunch of '' Enablers''. Besides ''Rehab is for quiters!''

Luv-N-It 01-03-2003 01:25 PM

I found out about it when looking on the net for used boats using a msn search. Interesting thing is, I never knew there was this forum stuff until I began looking at the site closer one day when I was bored at work. I just came to the site to look at used boats in the classifieds.
Now I come to work because of OSO and I look around closer at work for things to do instead of just OSO:crazy:

Instant Fun 01-03-2003 02:52 PM

I found out about the site about 6 months ago at the Hot Boat site. I've been lurking most of the time, learning about the performance boat world. You guys are a wealth of information, and I thank you all for that! :) And like most everyone else, I seem to find myself here daily.

JaayTeee 01-03-2003 05:19 PM

I found this site from another site,
(which will remain nameless) only
been on this for about 2 months,
but i'm on this s.o.b. every day !!!
even at work.
my wife says i have some kind of
problem  but that hasn't
stopped me yet.
i told her, "wait til warm weather
returns", but i have my doubt's.
the nameless site mentioned
above, havent been back there
much since i found this one.

Re: How and When did you hear about OSO?

I found out about this site from the "Illustrious one", Sean Stinson. I was considering buying this site from Jeffrey (BG1) a long time ago. I was taking some web design/ computer courses then (for fun) and my instructor said the site isn't worth it. I should have gone with my instinct and bought the site anyway :(

Main reason why those that can't 'teach' and those that can 'do'. Most Economics prof's are poor.

Re: How and When did you hear about OSO?

I saw this site or its early derivative years back when it was all my boat is faster than your boat....then some how you had to register and it got cleaned up.
Thank you for making it what it is today.
