What kind of mileage are you lookig for? I don't think you can shop for mileage when your looking at a big SUV. The excursion even with the diesel isn't going to get you much above 15mpg.

Talk to MitchStellin. He just went from a 2001 (2?) 1500 Burban to a 2003 Excursion PSD. Loves the Ford.

Any time you change from gas to diesel in a large vehicle you will be happier if you tow a lot. I currently have a 99 F250 diesel and love it. I have a new 6.0 diesel excursion on the way and I'm sure it will also be great. Suburbans are nice but until they come in a diesel I won't even consider one.

I have a 1500 suburban with a 350, and an Excursion with a PSD. The Suburban is more fun to drive around town, and gets similar milage when not towing. The leather is better in the Suburban, but far from good. The Excursion "lumbers" compared to the Suburban running erronds, but is without question the better pulling vechile of the two. (My engine is still stock, but don't know for how much longer). The turning radius is much better in the Excursion. You need to know that even though Ford charges $50,000 for the truck, they still can't afford to install important items you should consider. Better front springs, anti-sway bar in back, good shocks, and expect to turn the rotors every 10,000 miles.

Mrs. Chart's comments after driving the Excursion for the past two days: For a behemoth, the Excursion is very civilized around the city, and she prefers the Excursion over the Suburban for long road trips.

If you want some whimpy people hauler to drive around town keep the burban. If you want something that can handle a big load In Style get the Excursion

Not that I have an opinion or anything

I've got an '01 Suburban 1500 and an '02 Excursion PSD. We have had a number of suburbans to haul the kids and their crap around town. It's great for that task.

We use the excursion for towing the boat and for general purpose, i.e. errands when we are on vacation. My whole family prefers the Excursion, wife especially. We have a 3" lift kit and 37" tires. I expected the wife to hate it but she prefers to drive that over the suburban.
