Shipping Lanes?

Hello,

Is there any publication or anything online that shows the world's shipping lanes? Are they actual lanes out at sea so to speak that all commercial ships follow or just theoretical paths? Or can anyone explain them to me please?

They are not actual lanes (as in you physically see them) they are "paths" used by commercial ships.

the same goes with airways there are certain route, jumping accross the big pond. ships use certain courses, try to steer clear of large storms.

Locally, shipping lanes are where the fisherman like to park their happless "rigs" and then yell at you when you approach too closely.....I like to respond with a #1 and a brief education on where exactly they are....I'd love to see them try and steer the Carnival cruise ship away from their "hot spot" :rolleyes:
