Default Shipping Lanes?

Hello,

Is there any publication or anything online that shows the world's shipping lanes? Are they actual lanes out at sea so to speak that all commercial ships follow or just theoretical paths? Or can anyone explain them to me please?

Thanks,
Lance

They are not actual lanes (as in you physically see them) they are "paths" used by commercial ships.

Locally, shipping lanes are where the fisherman like to park their happless "rigs" and then yell at you when you approach too closely.....I like to respond with a #1 and a brief education on where exactly they are....I'd love to see them try and steer the Carnival cruise ship away from their "hot spot"

Great thanks for replying you all. How do they know which course to follow? Where are the courses published?

The US Coastguard would be the one’s to ask about that.
