Did somebody say they wanted to hear about the attempted helicopter escape? I happened to be at the MCC that day.

You've been everywhere with everyone except Davy Crockett at the Alamo. If you have something to add please stop asking if OSO members want to hear it. Just say it.
Thanks

This would be a great interview. Get this: the other day my bride was digging through old boxes of Christmas stuff and she found my copy of Speed Kills. I just finished reading it a little while ago.

For the record:
In his early days Ben used to sell small little amounts of pot; he was almost always at the band-shell @ Hollywood beach. I knew a guy, who knew a guy who used to buy pot from Ben.

The same guy had later made friends with two pirate-types who had a mid-sized Hatteras that was heavily involved in the importing business. Ben's name was tossed around pretty freely in those days.

It was a history-filled time to be in South Florida:

Liberty City riots (Arthur Duffy)
Mariel boat lift
Bails of Pot falling though the ceilings of trailer homes in Pompano.

Right before everything changed from Pot to Cocaine

Are you talking about Pirates World in Dania? I saw everybody there:Zepellin, the Byrds, the Dead,Allman Bro's, Pink Floyd, and many more. Ben was a drummer and I was a bass player, and we used to run into each other.

My understanding is that Maxine knew a niece of Lansky. According to one writer, that's close enough to call Ben the "putitive heir". Makes for interesting reading, I suppose. Ben used to carry a $1000 bill he said was once owned by Al Capone. I saw the bill, but I couldn't tell you from where it really came.

I only get on the board occasionally so forgive the lateness of my question. If I recall, Troutly was a board memebr with an avatar of flashing police lights and I thought he was a police officer. What happened to Troutly?

Troutly was a cop now in the slammer for 1 yr. Got caught doing his 13 yr old niece  Denied everything here till the court date. Ended up crying in front of the judge saying the stress of the job made him do it. :bunny:
He collects tax payers lifetime pension of 50-60k a year

A sad final blow, his niece just got killed by a drunk driver few months back. :(

How's that. What a Fuc@in Jag-Off.

Many espousing a higher moral authority have been laid low when the light of true reality is shown. Some have no known limits to hypocrisy.

Benny might have been a drug dealer and questionably a murderer...but he didn't claim to be a choir boy. Arronow phucked a lot of people over and who knows who really did the deed.

However, reading this chit is entertaining. Kind of like watching monkey's trying to open a pringles can. :evilb:

The only uncle of Ben's I knew was David Portnoy. Muriel Portnoy was the secretary at Apache.

I went to high school with Richard Portnoy, Ben's cousin. The two of us were involved in a big fight with the jocks, and I got kicked out of school for "Inciting a riot". Later on, Richard was Ben's PR guy at Apache, and like I said, Muriel, his mom, was the secretary there. Back then, it was like a family. Seems like one the first boats we made was an Aronow 39' Squadren mold that we bought from Don. We altered the transom angle, modified the hatches, and changed some other stuff. Saccenti thought it would make a great rough water race boat. Muriel developed cancer, and in the end she stayed with my wife a lot. David was a great guy, and Muriel was like the mom at Apache. This was early on, before any of the really bad stuff happened, and it was a whole new world to me. Everybody was excited about racing and working to do something good in the race world.

Hey RonP - I suspect that it wasn't the warden who said no - probably a much higher authority was behind the decision. Shame all the same. Would make for a very interesting read.

Gen Kramers uncle by marriage was Meyer Lanskey
