Ben Kramer Post

Last night OSO started a post about talking to him or would be,something to that effect. Now the post is gone. What's with that?

Magicfloat 01-19-2003 06:42 AM

Could be, Troutly :) , but it just seemed strange that the board gods would poof a post that they started. Maybe visiting hours got changed :)

Biggus 01-19-2003 06:43 AM

Troutly, man, your one funny dude!:D :D :D

R Addiction 01-19-2003 08:00 AM

OffshoreOnly 01-19-2003 10:58 AM

Anyone want to answer that one for him?

OffshoreOnly 01-19-2003 10:59 AM

Bobby, your on-line. Enlighten him!!

Magicfloat 01-19-2003 11:02 AM

US1 Fountain 01-19-2003 11:04 AM

Hope this isnt' going to open a can of worms, was just curious.

US1 Fountain 01-19-2003 11:28 AM

Never mind. Just searched and see Apache. Would take forever to bring me up to par on this one.
Just never followed the Apache stuff.

Magicfloat 01-19-2003 01:11 PM

Well, my popcorn got cold before anyone posted what Ben is best known for.:)

Horseplay 01-19-2003 01:51 PM

Mr. Kramer is a guest of the United States government, currently residing in Terre Haute Indiana. Beside the boat business, he had a lucrative pharmacutical importing trade. He also was responsible for the murder of Don Aronow if I recall correctly.

chuckbeecher 01-19-2003 02:01 PM

He did not work and play well with others...

SABER28 01-19-2003 02:01 PM

i have the tape of american speed and beauty, if anyone is interested in viewing it i would gladly make copys to pass around.

thanks to OSO for going through so much effort to try to make this tape available for everyone to see, to bad the lawyers have the final say:(

horseplay 3 , read speed kills , if you have'nt already, ben took a plea to get out of a certain jail, i do not know if he did it for sure, aronow had many sides that only came to light after his death.

Wow, that's only 2 hrs from me. I go through TH every so often. Don't know what government building is there, but I do know they have a prison. ;)

PC & Troutly,

:D :D :D

If anyone wants a history lesson I would suggest the book on tape Blue Thunder How the Mafia owned and finally murdered Cigarette boat king Don Aronow by Thomas Burdick. There are quite a few names mentioned in this book that seem to be coming up quite frequently on the board lately. I found a copy at the local library. Unbelievable!

most of what burdick said in bluethunder has been proven to be untrue, read speed kills probably much more accurate.

yes, as reggie has claimed many times, when he was 3 years old he was don aronows mentor and designed the 41 apache:p

:D :D :D Even at three he was impressive!

I guess I need to go back to the library.

Thanks,
Dan

SABER28 01-20-2003 07:00 AM

too old,

neither book paints a pretty picture of aronow as well. funny how history distorts reality:)

You fountain guys are all the same :chimp: :chimp: :D

Reggie isn't qualified to build the cup holders in an Aronow designed boat.

Does anybody know where I can get a copy of the book "Speed Kills"? I checked a few of the online stores (Amazon etc..) and they all say that it is no longer available.

Reindl Powerboats 01-20-2003 08:47 AM

Reading all the books will give you the best ability to decide for yourself which is the most accurate.

searace 01-20-2003 09:30 AM

Candy,

it is unbelievable... untrue also which is why the publisher pulled it from thier inventory. Burdick and the prob. officer who he quotes regularly are wanna be's. Thier slighting of DA is completely untrue.

EXHAUSTED 01-20-2003 03:15 PM

I got Speed Kills from the local library. Had to wait about a week.

Biggus 01-20-2003 05:59 PM

Speed Kills can be found on ebay most anytime. Search words, Don Aronow,

I`ve bought 2 copies in the past year.although I don`t even have 1 at the moment. People never return books???:(

Unbelievable! Exactly! The story was definitely out there. It was very interesting and I would still recommend the audio version of Blue Thunder. You don't have to believe everything you hear to find something interesting. I plan to read Speed Kills next. I find these stories interesting but not concrete enough to judge a person or person’s life. Are there any books you would recommend on the early days of Offshore?

Dan

SABER28 01-21-2003 07:48 AM

SEARACE by john crouse is the bible of offshore, get it.

candyman35 01-21-2003 10:39 PM

Saber28,
Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Ben Kramer Post

I've read "Speed Kills" but I don't remember it painting Aronow in a particularly bad light, unless you're talking about the womanizing and selling businesses knowing he'd have to take them back and keep the buyers downstroke. Or selling to a known felon/drug dealer while he had active government contracts to build drug interdiction boats and that the sale would void those contracts so he could take the business back or start another boat company to get the contracts back for himself making the former business he'd sold worthless. Otherwise, I don't think it put Don in a bad light. Business is business, right?

Wasn't there a History channel piece done on this and aired recently. History Channel or Speed Channel or some "Channel" anyway.
