How many blades on your prop?

What style prop do you run? I have 4 blades for all around good, and 3 blades for top speed.

I am running a 28 lab Bravo and a 30 lab Bravo, but I think I would run faster with a 29 mirage+ 3 blade.

INCOGNITO 01-20-2003 06:00 AM

I PRESENTLY RUN A 32 PITCH BRAVO 4 BLADE-I TRIED A HYDROMOTIVE 5 BLADE WAS FAST BUT FELT A LITTLE LOOSE GAVE ME A LITTLE TOO MUCH STERN LIFT AT HIGH SPEEDS (90 OR ABOVE) A LITTLE LONGER TO COME ON PLANE BECAUSE THE 5 BLADE DOESNT SLIP BITES REAL HARD..OVERALL I LIKE THE 4 BLADE OVERALL..26 FT CAT..

Jana 01-20-2003 06:55 AM

My stepped 29 Fountain seems to like its 4-blade Hydromotive. Didn't like the 3-blade Mirage I tried at all (very hard to get on plane).

Reindl Powerboats 01-20-2003 08:19 AM

Two props, three blades each for a total of 6.

ROUGH WATER 01-20-2003 08:21 AM

3 blades now, wouldnt mind trying some 5 blades,

sean stinson 01-20-2003 09:24 AM

5 baleds baby......gonna try the new 6 blades.....

Clay Washington 01-20-2003 09:40 AM

WARNING!!! The Poll is incomplete!

I have a Bravo 3, so I have SIX blades! :D

OldSchool 01-20-2003 09:42 AM

Four Blades, most of the time:D

Craig

formula31 01-20-2003 09:49 AM

Hey, our old hydroplanes all used 2 blade props. Most efficient there is. Dont need prop lift on an air effect hull.

Dave M 01-20-2003 10:52 AM

I usually use a 26 Bravo 1. I have a labbed 25 Mirage plus that was bumped up to a 26 that I use on occasion.

tbone 01-20-2003 10:52 AM

Speaking of props. What is the difference between a regualar bravo prop and a cleaver type prop?

Mine has three, thinking of getting it tweaked a little bit.

HyperBaja 01-20-2003 12:02 PM

Stainless Turbo 3........ Not enough cash to try different ones!!!

Do you really run faster with 3 compared to 4? How much?

Intolerant1 01-20-2003 01:48 PM

There should be some fractional vote options for those that boat on Il Chain of Lakes.

I use a Rev4.

GO4BROKE 01-20-2003 07:03 PM

Curt, I run 2mph faster with a Mirage Plus than I do with my Bravo 1's. Doesn't sound like much, but thats all it takes to push the gps over 70mph.

R Addiction 01-20-2003 09:34 PM

I run a tweaked 4-blade Bravo one. Was 26p now is 25p. tried a 3-blade and with the agressive X dimension took forever to get on plane and lost 5mph on top end. :p

mpally 01-20-2003 09:41 PM

Sean, I was just going to ask when are they going to come out with 6 blades. Does someone already make them?

R Addiction 01-20-2003 10:03 PM

I'm looking into a 5-Blade from mercury. Anyone have any real life testing with this prop?

Go for Broke, I started out wth 23 pitch 3 blade Mirage props with 502 magnums (410 hp.), 1.36 drives and ran 69 gps at about 4900 rpm. Fast forward 3 years and 400 more hp. and a change to 1.50 drives, I am in the upper eighties at 5800 rpm running 27 pitch 4 blade hydromotives. I was talked into the 4 blade hydros by a racer who is good friends with Tom Buchnell who owns the company. Plus he pointed out that all the new Fountains at the time were running 4 blade Hydros. So I said what the hell! I have heard the opinion that 3 blades are faster than 4 but if that is so, why do all new boats come with 4???? If I can pick up 2 mph by just changing props...it's done!:D

GO4BROKE 01-22-2003 06:09 PM

Three blades are faster , but on big boats the holeshot is a joke, Cruising rpm's are higher (more fuel consumption), and the handling looser. Four blades have a good enough holeshot to break your drives, lower rpm's at midrange speeds, tight handling, only negative is a little speed shaved off the top end. So I have both!

YOU CAN'T HIDE MONEY! :p :p :p :p :p :p

Bajadude, how much speed difference do you see between those two props?

Whipple Charged 01-28-2003 05:15 PM

5 blade Heirings on bravo or Imco drives are simply incredible. The acceleration, planing, second to none as of now. Got 36 pitch on my boat, super high X. An entirely new way of building boats, higher x, 5 blade prop, more speed, 4 blade bravos 32-36 simply don't work anywhere near the Heirings. I have never tested the Hydromotive 5 blades. Heirings are worth the $$.

Thanks,
Dustin

Cord 01-28-2003 05:20 PM

Have you tried the new merc 5 blades?

MnHowardCat 01-29-2003 09:56 AM

4-blade Bravo (30P) works for me.;)

formula1 01-29-2003 05:40 PM

I switched from 23P Mirage 3-blades to the 24P Bravo 4-blades and WOW what a difference it made!!! Holeshot and mid-range acceleration has been drasticly improved, however lost a couple on the top, but how often am I up there?? I'll take the holeshot and acceleration any day. And on top of that, my cruising speed went up 4-6 MPH!

Steve

FRMULTR 01-29-2003 07:59 PM

4 blade Bravo,32 pitch, would like to try a new 5 blade on my 25 Daytona

Airpacker 05-29-2003 11:44 AM

I guess it depends on which drive I'm using at the time. The Bravo uses a 4 blade and the BlackHawk uses 2 3 baldes.

Same here. Can you say H-O-L-E-S-H-O-T?

Rivercrazy 05-29-2003 12:36 PM

23P Rev-4 for load handling, skiing, cruising and a labbed 25P 3 blade Mirage Plus for top end stuff and ligher load conditions

Use to be 3, but due to a cut back in funding I'm down to 2.

tachyon 05-31-2003 08:53 AM

Rik,

What was the diameter of that prop?

Rik 05-31-2003 02:43 PM

21.25" Diameter
