I'm beginning to think that Formula might just be a front for the Devil...

The Admiral and I put boating on hold for a few years so that she can stay home and tend to our (now) 1 year old daughter. It has always been our intention to get another boat, probably in a year or maybe two. But...

Formula keeps introducing these fantastic financing deals. And we really, really, really like the 280 SS - perfect for the type of boating we do (plus the insurance doesn't break you). The boat show is 3 weeks away, and I've got this little Scott Porter sitting on my shoulder, whispering "You could have it this year, you could, just price it out, the numbers might work...." And the bastard is wearing a red suit and horns, I tell ya!

Can anyone out there be my voice of reason????

hp500efi 01-22-2003 11:41 AM

LOL :)

Mike, that little red guy visit's me as well....damn little prick, I wish he would just make up his mind :)

dockrocker 01-22-2003 11:50 AM

fountain27ho496 01-22-2003 11:52 AM

I can help...

Were not here for a long time, were here for a good time.......

An 80 year old customer of mine once told me, when your young
and you want something, get it, even if you have to borrow the money. He said when you get my age you'll have the money,
But you wont have the want.

I have my own saying, "live for today, but have an IRA"
Hope this helps......John

PhantomChaos 01-22-2003 11:54 AM

I listened to that Devil......now I have two boats, but don't regret getting the new one, just not getting rid of the old one sooner. :D :D :D

BoatChic 01-22-2003 12:02 PM

Just Do It!

That SS is a great looking boat.

:fish:

rainmn 01-22-2003 12:03 PM

I saw that same devil when I was the NYC show, and the more beers I had, the louder he got..:hothead:

Frequency 01-22-2003 12:08 PM

My problem is not knowing what kind of toys I'll want 15 years from now - cause I can estimate what the money I spend on a new boat today would give me.

We looked at 280's last year - nice boat. Lots of used ones on the market right now - 50K to 80K. Go cheap! ;)

dockrocker 01-22-2003 12:14 PM

Troutly,

That's what scares me about a new boat. I took a pretty good hit when I sold my Powerquest after two years, even though I got a pretty damn good deal (at least, I thought so) on it.

Of course, it seems like the performance market is - and has been - in the crapper. It should be easier to sell a "family" boat like the SS (or is that the little devil talking :) )

Frequency 01-22-2003 12:23 PM

The little devil reads your mind and tells you what you want to hear!

(What's that? A new 36 with 525EFI's. I do deserve it, don't I.)

:D :D

Budman 01-22-2003 12:36 PM

I only wish I was in a financial position to be tempted. Five hundred bucks/month for daycare would be a good start for a boat payment!

Uncle Toys 01-22-2003 12:47 PM

Dockrocker – I feel your pain bro. Damn, I feel your pain daily! But, and this is a big but – you’ve got to keep your priorities straight! All kidding aside, your top priority now is that kid. If you can afford the boat and the wife can stay home and raise your child – great. If not, your rationalizing on the priorities.

Probably only three priorities you need to deal with: the first one I don’t even want to touch on this board, the second is the kid(s), third is probably retirement. After that take on whatever debt you two feel comfortable with and live for the day.

In my opinion, if you rationalize the wife needing a job so you can have a boat, your screwing up. For perspective though, all the above sermonizing comes to you from one of the sickest guys on the board. Just ask Mrs. Toys.

Magicfloat 01-22-2003 12:52 PM

Be sure you get the new SS windshield and radar arch option,it transforms the looks of the 280.

dockrocker 01-22-2003 12:55 PM

UT,

We won't buy a boat if it means Mom has to go back to work - that is a non-starter (both with me and with her). And the retirement $$ doesn't get touched for anything short of a financial calamity - hell, now is the time to buy! I'm more looking at whether I put off redoing the landscaping in the front yard, that sort of thing. ;)

So, I think I might have to do a bit more "serious" shopping at the boat show this year (of course, the Mrs will act as my conscience - she's great for this, UNLESS she happens to want something too. Then all rational thought goes out the window... :D )

Magic, I'm not real hot on the arch for the 280 or 33, to tell you the truth. Love it on the 370/400 (I *will* buy a 400SS with twin 525s if those lottery numbers come in!), but not the smaller boats. Of course, I've only seen pics, it may be different in the 'glass, so to speak.

BTW, do you guys have a website? I was looking for your dealership today but "nelemsmarine" was some dealership in Georgia - that's not you, is it?

dockrocker 01-22-2003 01:21 PM

What, what?!?!? *looking frantically all around* What did I do?!?!? :D

(I have a feeling I just opened a big ol' can o' worms!

Gee, let me think - landscaping or boat? Dude, thats a tough one.....NOT :D :D

Magicfloat 01-22-2003 01:33 PM

Don't get me started. Some jerk in Atlanta registered a bunch of names hoping to sell them. I didn't really want a website, don't have the time, All my boats are on Boatrader.com,search for dealer. So apparently the guy sold my name to Park Marine in Atlanta, I guess thinking they could steal a sale or 2:( , but I think my customers are smarter than that.Trailmarine .com also goes to Park, they wouldn't buy either, they use .net.I'm pretty sure they are in violation of the anti-cyber squatting law, but it's too much trouble to fight it. Screw em and their sleazeball tactic.

dockrocker 01-22-2003 01:37 PM

*******s - that sort of thing just boils my blood. Robert, if we decide to move on anything, I'll be giving you a call. I think I showed the Mrs a used 280 I found at your dealership a while back. She loves that boat (and so do I, truth to be told...)

True, but I don't have to rack-store or put gas in the landscaping :D Dammit UT, I'm trying to be responsible here, and I've left-coast jokers like you eggin' me on! :D :D

8 degrees in Detroit this morning - this kind of "virtual boat shopping" helps keep us folks in the snow belt sane!

Magicfloat 01-22-2003 02:09 PM

Get this,I just talked to the general manager at Park Marine. He said he had heard about that but had no clue as to how or why it was happening. Yeah, right. He said he could not control that from his end, someone must have directed Nelemsmarine.com to his website but he knew nothing about it. I asked why would someone do that, what's the point? He said he had no idea. BTW, he also said he sold 80 boats at the recent Atlanta Boat Show. Yeah, right. I hate liars like thatthat are in our industry. Sorry, just had to vent, think I might call my lawyer after all.

What else is a OSO brother for :D :D

By the way, last time the presures of life had you tied up in knots, did your landscape give you any relief?

Last time you were in the middle of a bad work week, did you think to yourself - just make it to the weekend, then you can play with your landscape?

Whens the last time you had a great conversation because a buddy came into your office and noticed a picture of your landscape?

:D :D :D :D

As for the great financing, looks cheap till you realize it goes on for over 20 years

Hey, we are going to keep our boats for the full 20 years!

p.s. Come on young-bro, our wifes lurk on here ;) ;) :D :D

HyperBaja, just wait until you're signing your first mortgage, and you see exactly how much that pile of bricks is *really* costing you! :D

UT, you're a bad, bad influence - don't change a thing!

cuda 01-22-2003 05:43 PM

Dockrocker, I feel your pain. I want a 312 so bad I can taste it. I'm afraid when I get to the Miami show, the devil's influence may be too much to fight.

Audiofn 01-22-2003 05:51 PM

AHH the image of animal house :D:D

Get the boat. The kid will love it they all do :D:D

I know,

If I trade in my used Formula for a new one with more power all my sins will be forgiven.

Oh what a tangled web we weave :D :D :D

Magicfloat 01-22-2003 06:14 PM

Formula's Escape program is a great program, just be sure you understand the whole thing. They have several no interest/low interest deals, the rate and term varies depending on the plan you choose. But what many buyers overlook is the cash rebate in lieu of the cheap interest. You can pick one, cheap interest or cash rebate(discount on sale price) you can't have both. For instance, if you arrange your own financing the cost of your boat is lower,$8000 on a 312,$ 10000 on a 353,$4500 on a 280SS, etc..My opinion, take the money,do your own financing, rates are cheap now.The cash rebate costs the dealer nothing,Formula pays all of it. This is a good time to buy a Formula, just understand how the program works. If the low interest deal works for you,go for it,I just believe the cash discount(rebate) makes more sense.

THEJOKER 01-22-2003 08:44 PM

Formula SS - Awesome Boat

Formulas financing beats all others manufacturers hands down. I can't believe Park Marine would stoop that low . BH

Magicfloat 01-22-2003 09:09 PM

Someone more internet savvy than me help me out. Park Marine says they know nothing and have no control over someone, anyone, that can divert nelemsmarine.com to their website. That even if they want to stop it they can't. I'm internet impaired, is that a true statement?

cuda 01-22-2003 10:09 PM

Robert, it seems to me that if it was diverted to him, and he was an honest man, he would in turn divert it to you. He smells fishy to me. In my opinion, that is nothing less than being a thief. Hope it works out for you.

Yep....that is true. You can point a URL (web address) to any other site. It costs somebody something (<$10) to do it. Oh yeah....only the person that owns the URL (name) that can do that............so there you go.

Rippem 01-22-2003 10:12 PM

Mr. Nelems how are you? Haven't reconsidered taking my Velocity and making my Formula dreams come true have you? I'll even give some pad bottom boat driving instruction! It's not that hard ...really. :D All kidding aside, isn't the 18mo. @ 0% or 24 mo. @ 1.15% (or whatever it is this week) buy down worth substantially more money to loan principle than the rebate at a given price? Say 160K? 353 for example. If it is, the rebate should only be used if you need more real down $ for the bankers to look at, true? P.S. The '01 w/torch Robert if you still have it. ;)

It is true. I posted the whois record for the domain name earlier in this thread. It has the contact name, address and phone for the owner of the domain. That is who you need to contact for he is the one that has defined and/or approved the redirection.

Steve

Magicfloat 01-23-2003 06:41 AM

I contacted the guy He told me he bought a boat from Park and decided to help them out by diverting all the marine dealer names he owned to them, then he basically to me to f*** off. I'm pretty steamed now. I am going to call Park and request that they ask him to remove the link voluntarily or I will get my attorney involved. I doubt they will do it voluntarily cause Park lied to me yesterday. I would love to hear more comments from you internet savvy guys, thanks

OldSchool 01-23-2003 06:51 AM

Why don't you take a look at Nort's 312. That is one nice boat for a low price.
