Loadmaster Aluminum
I had an Aluminum load master before I
had my Manning built. The Aluminum loadmaster is not as heavy in over all trailer weight as a Myco. Anyways in my experience with the one and only one I'll ever on in ( Aluminum ) was bad. The dang thing floated being a triple axle trailer. So you would back in the water to load up and it would float up and twist to its side. It would take 3 to 4 people to load vs. 1. I ended up making a steel weight for it and bolted it on the very end of the trailer. That kept her grounded until I had the Manning built. Good Luck Cougarman |

MYCO!!!
Myco is the way to go! I am on my second one. The first was a painted steel trailer, my new one is aluminum triple axle with disc brakes. After having wheels fall off and axles break going down the highway (out of town) while using cheaper trailers, I switched to Myco. Now towing is a pleasure. Why do you think 80% of the offshore racing teams are using Myco? Just look around at the races, that is what got me thinking about Myco. And they are a pleasure to deal with, Bill Tweedie will help you design your trailer and custom build it within a few weeks.

You all are great. I have spoken to South Florida and Manning. Both Mark (Manning) and Jay South Florida were very informative. Alot to compare when price and quality shopping. It is definately a learning experiance. I left a message for a Myco dealer. Does anyone have Mr. Tweetie's number so I can call him directly at work? Hugh I replied to your PM.

MYCO is, as everyone has already posted "The way to go" The price reflects the product. If you are looking for something that is good quality at a low price. Try Ace Trailers. Call Wayne Redmond at 949-254-9360 and tell him what you are looking for. I have a few Go Fast boats on his trailers and the customers are happy. Good Luck!

Myco Myco Myco -
I priced Myco. I priced Eagle. Who gives a rat if they are the best? They are the HIGHEST, that's for d@m sure. If somebody is higher than those two, I missed out on being amazed by their numbers as well. I bought an Owens & Sons trailer (St.Pete, FL). They built it in 2 days. They striped it to my spec. It fits my boat (311SR1) like a glove. Easiest trailer I've ever owned from the standpoint of loading and unloading the boat on it. No adjustments necessary - was perfect as delivered and they never laid eyes on my boat (used Thunderbird's hull specs and CG info for the build and setup). $3700 for a 10,500 GVWR triple axle torsion suspension. Surge brakes (free-backing drums) on two axles (I like having one with no brakes so there is never a jackknife risk - in normal conditions at least). huge 3,000lb caster jack bolted on a big beefy mount plate. stainless hardware and pressure flush kit for brakes. (discs would have been a hundred more, but I actually prefer drums). Home-run electrical wiring (no splices underwater). I could go on and on, but bottom line is that I feel I got the right trailer and paid hardly anything for it. Pulls great. (surge brakes thump like they all do, but I like em better than electrics). Make your own decision, but you oughta at least call these guys. |
Loadmaster (Port Clinton, OH) makes a very good steel trailer, They are built solid as a rock with plenty of support for the boat, they are also friendly (you deal directly with the owner) the frame is made from channel steel and the entire trailer has an (open construction) so water cannot sit inside it like tube steel and rot from the inside out. The only downside is that they are very heavy:( Personally I would go with aluminum.

PowerBoat Issue
If you grab ( August 2002 ) PowerBoat Mag.
the had a 6 to 7 page article on having a trailer built and the do's and don'ts. Then they also list all the trailer manufactures, and what they offer, along with addresses, Phone #'s, etc. etc. Cougarman |
