Project Thoroughbred

1 Attachment(s)
The Thoroughbred that was at the Jacksonville poker run, and also the Smith Mountain Lake Poker Run is currently undergoing a major overhaul. This is one of the boats that is pictured in the Fastest conventional V bottom thread also. It has always been a very fast single engine V bottom but the owner Gary W is looking to go faster and look a little more modern. Gary you have got a lot of work ahead of you.

After seeing the close up I see it's not my old boat...sure does bring back memories though. ;) I remember cutting out for a glovebox thru that aluminum panel and the deck at once with a jigsaw  Plus many other projects large and small, including keeping the engine repaired with 7.5 lbs. of boost and 5600 RPM and no innercooler  Good luck to him with the restovation! My friend Leo Wiseman has a 26 (28) with a big inch blown motor in it. Ran 102 mph at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout this past summer to win his class. Seriously fast boat!!!!!

Audiofn 04-06-2003 09:22 PM

Man I remember doing all that to my boat. I do not miss it ONE BIT. Doing the bottom was a LOT of work.

Movin On, what kinda crap ass post is that? Not cool for a new member. Get it out of here. We don't bash like that here.

JohnJan 04-25-2003 02:02 PM

Wow. Makes me think I ought to take my 26 off the market and do it up like that as well.

Did you do anything else to the bottom besides sharpening the chines? What result will that get you?

Best wishes on your project, keep those pics coming ! ! !

JUSTONCE 04-25-2003 02:07 PM

Its got a blown 540 in it.

FFO 04-25-2003 08:05 PM

Hi ""great boat""!!! I also Owen same boat . I did work to motor .Dyno at 630 hp was wondering what speed I should see and prop 2 start with was thinking 28 hydro ?

wilerty 04-25-2003 08:44 PM

FFO: I'ld start with a 30" Bravo 1. With that amount of HP you'll just break the Hydro lose ... been there/ done that. At least make sure you try a Bravo 1 ... you'll see. I have, oops, had (just sold it today) a 280 with a whipplecharged 502 which gives about the same hp.

FFO 04-25-2003 09:10 PM

wilerty Thanks Also what was speed of your boat ?? I tried all different prop's with stock power only one that would work good was 24 hydro . Boat has nose cone. But will give it a try. "Bravo 1" Thanks again

wilerty 04-25-2003 10:26 PM

FFO: Best I ever saw was 85mphgps ... perfect conditions. Mine was a non-labbed 30". The Whipple included the optional throttle bady and was supposed to produce(per Whipple) 640hp.

26thoroughbred 04-25-2003 10:45 PM

FFO: I run a 30 pitch bravo and my motor is 800 plus HP. It will run low to mid 90s. When i first got the boat it had a 415 hp 502 engine and I install a b&m 250 blower on it. I ran a 28 pitch hydro on it and the boat ran in the low 80s. I tested both hydromotive & bravos. The hydromotive was 2or3 mph faster but was hard to get on plane and would blow out on turns & rough water.

FFO 04-25-2003 11:34 PM

26thoroughbred :Did your hydro have a blow out ring on it? My 24 did not. In any type of waves it would blowout. Does the bravo blow out in rough water?? Thanks Guys !!!

26thoroughbred 04-26-2003 08:59 AM

No my hydro did not have a ring on it. I cant get the bravo to blow out. I had two hydromotive that i threw blades off the props. So i dont think much of hydromotive props. But if you got the prop i would start with it. maybe you will have better luck than i did.

FFO 04-26-2003 10:49 AM

26thoroughbred : I dont have prop . The guy that did work on motor said he would trade me for my prop . They said the blow out ring would help alot . I think it will loose some top end speed.. Maybe he will trade for bravo 1 !

MovinOn 04-27-2003 07:40 AM

Geezz Sydways, It wasn't intended to bash as you call it.. Altho you read it like you see it .sydways or upside down or whatever ..that's why the board has comment's i suppose.. can't anyone ever laugh & poke a little fun without making someone who actually doen't know me make a comeback statement like that.

MovinOn 04-27-2003 07:47 AM
