Thanks to the Stones

On behalf of all of us "Obsolete" guys, I would like to personally thank Mick, Keith and the rest of those amazing baby boomer Stones for tearing the house down on HBO and proving that....

Rock and Roll never forgets.............and

old boat racers never die...............

Personal to Steve David:

Now if we could just get "Busta Rhymes" away from the control panel..................... Whatever happened to Vanilla Ice anyway? ;)

Yep, Stones. Don't come around like them anymore.

I think Vanilla Ice and Michael Jackson got mixed up somewhere. But what do I know, I'm just a young snot nosed punk! ;)

I've always been a big Stones fan. I saw them at Tampa Stadium around 1990. I personally believe that Keith Richards has been dead since around 1970, and nobody told him. It's a weekend at Bernies sort of scenario.

Here is another of us obsolete guys bands. I ran across this a few days ago going through some old scrapbooks.

Magicfloat 01-26-2003 05:20 PM

Moved into the Bham Show today .Have an old homemade cassette tape(yes, casette) that I made to play while moving into the same show 32 years ago.Bo Diddley,Rod Stewart, Stones,Marshall Tucker, John Cougar(before Mellencamp) etc. The Hummer I borrowed had a cassette player. It was sweet, no good songs have been recorded since the early 70's. As they said in The Big Chill movie"name one". :):):)

chuckbeecher 01-26-2003 05:35 PM

Just saw them before the game started on HBO! They ARE still great. They were here last night and friends that went loved it and the paper gave great review. You know, considering their age and everything that they have done and been through they LOOK REAL GOOD!! nWe all should hope to be that way when we hit those numbers!!!!

little princess 01-26-2003 07:35 PM

You guys had all of the really good bands back then. Today there are only a few bands that wil stand the test of time.

Dave M 01-26-2003 07:41 PM

The Stones still rock! I like watching a show like that in the comfort of my own home too. I've seen them and many others live but I've grown to hate crowds. I spent more time on the beer and the bathroom lines than I did watching the show! Not to mention the price of tickets these days.

One more thing ... I think Sheryl Crow is pretty HOT!

It would be interesting to hear what today bands do you think will stand the test of time? What kind of music do they play and what should we listen to?

jafo 01-26-2003 09:23 PM

I still have an original copy of 'December's Children' laying around here somewhere..... I believe it's mono.......

The new bands and their music of today just don't quite cut it. I just can't think of any that will stand the test of time. Most of it relies too heavily on a subwoofer in a Honda Civic.

If you've got it flaunt it........If you don't then pretend. The Stones obviously have it cause you can't pretend this long.My 2 cents.Jim

Troutly.........as is opened at EVERY show as early as 1969....The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in The World,"THE ROLLING STONES" PERIOD.

T2x 01-27-2003 11:21 AM

Troutly:

10 years from now the world will reply "who?" to the following names:

1. Green Day

2. Back Street Boys

3. A 1/2 dozen blond wannabes ranging from Pink to what's her name on yesterday's super bowl halftime show.

4. P Diddy

5. In Sync

6. Any band playing in front of a mosh pit this year.

7. Enrique Iglesias and other members of his "genre"...Ricky Two Years Ago........etc.

8. Nellie

Ten years from now....... the following will still pack 'em in and bring a long wistful "yeah" when listened to:

1. The Stones (even if half of them pass on in the meantime)

2. Billy Joel

3. Bruce

4. Santana

It's about originals versus afterthoughts, creators versus cretins, talent versus technopop, legends versus latex, quality versus quim.

Just like boating.

The Stones were in Marquette, MI a while ago. Their lead Roadie had passed away and he was from Marquette, MI. They came for the funneral and really freaked the town out. They walked the streets and played in some bars. man that would have been a real trip. There is no hiding these guys. And Cuda, I was 10 in 1973:eek: :D But I listened to their music along with Genessis and the Who to name a small few.

birdog 01-27-2003 02:44 PM

Rock & Roll will never Die !!!

Long live the Stones,Led Zep,Carlos Santana....Just to name a few !!!!!!

As one said...... "TODAYS MUSIC AIN'T GOT THE SAME SOUL".......:D

little princess 01-27-2003 09:51 PM

Haven't you guys herd of Sublime. I really hope every one forgets about all thoes pop bands like N sync, brittany, blink 182and all of te other bs bands that only care about the $$. There are quite a few punk bands that may hold up. BTW don't any of you guys listen to Bob Marley any more.

Budman 01-28-2003 12:06 PM

Fluid & Filter Change

I personally believe that Keith Richards has been dead since around 1970, and nobody told him.
- Cuda...

Nah, Cuda, he just looks dead because he is overdue for his next fluid & filter change - you know, blood transfusion and liver transplant. :D Hell, when he finally does kick it, they won't even have to embalm him with all of the chemicals floating around in that dude's body!

I used to love that guy's music. I haven't heard anything new from him in years. ;)

We were fortunate enough to be able to see them at Ford Field this tour. It was the best concert I've been to in a long time. The best part of watching them is they look like they still love what they do. I don't think there will ever be a group that can stand up to the longevity of them.

wwwTOPDJcom 02-17-2003 10:05 AM

Man Ya got me depressed again, my unmotivated
Band has broken up again, I think Im gonna look for
a entire new group of guys, since the practice studio is in my basement, My biggest problem finding good ones is
all the Good ones have a Drug problem or at least a drinking
problem. Of course drinking isnt a problem :D

Bulldog 02-18-2003 12:27 AM

I was 'OZZY' when Ozzy wasn't cool......

BROWNIE 02-18-2003 07:32 AM

Being an old rock-and-roller, I was sought out by Mick to be the original lead guitar in the band, but the tour sites would not allow my diesel guitar!

T2x 02-18-2003 09:18 AM

..... Or Uncle Carl's aluminum, turbine drum set............

:p

I think it was 1983 and they had just announced that the Stones would be appearing at the now gone Capital Center (here in Maryland). I remember standing in line for tickets in the snow as this was supposed to be their "farewell tour". Go figure.
