Beleive it or not higher octane fuels have a lower flashpoint and therefore is safer.

The higher the octane the slower the burn hence the preference in the old big block engines. Prevented premature ignition on the longer piston strokes and lower octane facilitate a quicker burn on shorter stroke engines. New technologies with fuel injection and electronic ignitions allow most big blocks these days (especially automobiles) to utilize lower octane fuel which is cheaper to manufacture hence, cheaper at the pump....

Speaking of gas.
Here in the Detroit area it just got jacked up ! I don't know when but I just noticed a Diesel price of $1.69 and regular 87 was $1.57 today.
What the F is up with that ?!?!?
When I bought my truck last year diesel was $1.09.

You guys all need to move to LOTO. YOu can find whatever octane you need, including 110.

I hear ya! Here in the Dallas area gas is usually a little less expensive than most places. I just paid $1.69 for premium for my Expedition and most stations are over $1.70. Reg at the Texaco I fueled up at was $1.49. For the first time I'm temped to yank the chip.....nahhh.
