Your absolutely right. You pay through inflated insurance premiums and inflated retail prices to cover retailers inflated insurance premiums and poor medical care because the good Dr.s are fleeing the state to avod inflated insurance premiums. Any way you slice it "WE" pay.

Ran dom, I know this going in. Remember I am from a very sue happy state. I have limited liability policy , with no loan against my boat. I'm talking about having full coverage insurance. It is BS. I know 5 people from right here in Fl. 65-130 mph, 36 Skater, Manta , a couple double outboard Scarabs, Spectre, Fountain with 2x 1000's with no insurance and don't want insurance. It is just too much money for boats that will not be replaced, read your policy, see the words, pro rated, ACV, items not covered, racing, unsafe operation, operation in unsafe conditions and several other situations. Then you need an lawyer to argue what is safe operation and so on. How many people are being untruthful about hp, top speed, experience, who will be operating the vessell, boating coarses they never took? It can all bite you in the ass, they will catch you if there is deception and the ins. co. can get out of paying. A bank loan is the bottom line for most people having full coverage on hot rod boats that are not new, by the way mine is a 95. Almost a 10 year old boat, I would'nt get dick for big claim.

I'm awaiting my renewal any day now(March actually)...I'm getting skeered....
Currently, I pay 1300/yr for a 25'er with a single stock motor, perfectly clean record. (And that's the best I could find )

The east and west coast guys get to boat 12 months a year and the rest of us 5 to 6.

Well to add my .02 I am from Philadelphia pa. So I can only boat about 5 months a year on the delaware river at that. I store my boat on a trailer in my yard. A 28 2000 Sunsation. Full coverage costs me $1360 last year and I can honestly say that is it goes up over to $1400 I am 100% selling my boat. I pay $1200 for full coverage on my truck. So it's not just Florida.
But yet my buddy runs a 32 Hustler with NO insurance. he said it's too much and a waste for anything other than if someone gets hurt. Insurance to me is an overated scam.
How is it in 32 years I never ever made a claim yet my rates go up ?
If any ins broker is reading this and you KNOW you can beat $1360 a year let me know?

Great thread gang.... but can anybody offer me any other options other than no insurance. I am ready to fork out the bucks if I have too. Last year it was $250 rider for 30 days only. This year it is $1000 rider for the year. So if I make two trips in a 12 month period then it reduces the costs to only $500 per trip and next year we just don't go and do not get the rider. I still end up going at least once a calendar year. Not so bad if you can work it that way.

$1800/yr for 2002 PQ 340 Vyper with everything and agreed hull value of $150k. Covers year round boating on Atlantic and Chesapeake Bay w/ 2% deductible. By FAR the best rate I found and it was with Total Dollar (see Sy Goldberg). Check out Total Dollar!

And like Jeff said...there are so many exclusions and conditions, they could probably find a way to not pay no matter what the situation.
