Gulf Coast?

Are there many places for powerboaters to go on the west coast of Fla?Most people talk only about the east coast and the Keys.

Yes there is some great destination boating on the West Coast of Fl......I am not exactly sure of all the names at this time since I have only boated there a few times but I did have fun and covered some ground.

The Florida Suncoast has tons of good boating over here. (Tampa Bay area). We got out last weekend for the first time.

Like the west coast better, The Keys to Pensacola pick a spot the white sugar sand and clear blue water speak for thereselves.
We have a place in Destin and have all intentions of being where I end up at!

I actually prefer the Gulf Coast.
There are tons of places and great cities/town!

Tapma/St. Pete/Clearwater
Sarasota
Ft. Myers
.
.
.
Miami/Keys eventually

I have heard that the Gulf Coast has a high salt content in the water. Tampa area being the highest. Is this true? Does it matter if it is?

Go to Destin and you'll never go to Miami again. They have a sandbar with a floating bar and a lagoon where everybody pulls their boat up. BH

I love it down around Bonita Springs up to Sarasota and St. Pete. Cedar Key is nice and then Destin/Ft. Walton, Perdido Key and FloraBama. I have found the waters around St. Geoge Island to be really nice on occasions, must be the way the currents flow at times. East..West...North...South the whole state is great!!!

MassiveThunder 03-01-2003 03:30 PM

Sounds like alot of nice places........Any pics?

Sanibel, Captiva, Ft. Meyers and Cabbage Keys restraunt are cool. That's the only places I've been Gulf Side. Los of go-fasts around there. I'm taking the boat down to that area around World's and Thanksgiving. Hope to meet some of the FPB peeps.

Back a week ago and after the 500 we toured St Pete Beach to Clearwater Beach pretty hard. Fell in love with Madiera Beach and boats were aplenty. Have done St Augustine to Miami, think I prefer the west coast. Oh by the way, we are moving, she just doesn't know it yet. I get her mama to move, I get her to move.

Gator's on the Pass. The Treasure Island side of John's Pass.

There is an article in this month's PRA magazine profiling this lady.

Shepards at Clearwater Beach. This place can get crazy busy when they have bands and bikini contests outside. This picture was on March 10th when the water is still pretty cool to get in.

MassiveThunder 03-03-2003 04:28 PM

Thanks for the pics!! Looks like ther may be more on the west coast than retired folks.lol
