Default OT: New 6.0 Diesel

I have a new Excursion that is supposed to arrive in a couple of days that has the new 6.0 diesel engine. I have become nervous about buying it due reports of engine failure at very low mileage. From what I have read there are some injectors failing which is allowing large amounts of diesel to enter the oil. Does anyone on the board have one of these engines? Are the failures a small number but getting a lot of attention due to unhappy people posting on the internet? I hate to buy one now and find out they have fixed the problems in 6 months.

Check at thedieselstop.com under the forum section.

I don't have a Ford, but read all about diesels to keep up.

I hope anyone that has the 6.0 diesel reports there experiences good or bad, as I am getting ready to buy one soon if everything seems okay.. Was trying to hold off as long as possible to make sure all was well with this motor..

All I have heard (from some local Ford mechanics) is that the turbocharger has failed on several early units. Their armchair engineering theory was failure due to higher bosst pressures in a smaller displacement engine. Totally unverified, so take it for what it's worth.

I have done performance upgrades on several and I have seen NO PROBLEMS !! About 5 of my friends have stock ones and have no problems either . I can tell you automatic lovers that the new 5 speed trans is a lot better then the old P.O.S.

Thanks for the responses. It sounds like there are a few problems that are being worked out. Apparently the ICP sensor was changed as of 02/04 build dates. I guess I'll check the build date when it gets here and go from there.

I just picked up my 2003 crewcab dually with the 6.0 on Monday. I've got 350 miles so far, but time will tell. Awsome motor though! Very quiet and lots of power.

I just got a call from the dealer and mine is in. I'll pick it up tonight and hopefully it will be as good as my 99 F250 Diesel was. Anyone know who does a good job of adding air suspension for a reasonable price?
