I NEED A DRINK:hothead:

US1 Fountain 03-19-2003 08:25 PM

Is this off the boat you just bought from NM?

VelocityMark 03-19-2003 08:26 PM

Holly chit david is that on both motors:eek:

mopower 03-19-2003 08:28 PM

Maybe the photos lack something , but what am I missing here:confused: , aside from some corrosion in the intake water passage.

19 to go

vagrant 03-19-2003 08:33 PM

YEP AND YEP,I took her in for a simple valve spring job and got alot more than I bargained for. Port engine rusty valve springs
manifolds shot, water in cylinders scorned piston

Starboard Engine water in cylinders number 7 cylinder 90 on compression check . Sludge under intake from water

Guess what that equals .2 engines for rebuild

vagrant 03-19-2003 08:37 PM

Mopower- the intakes are full of salt and corrosion. Valve springs are rusted, water in cylinders the pictures don't show all ,Its just been a bad day.
David

US1 Fountain 03-19-2003 08:44 PM

Sorry to hear this. I think you are intitled to a drink.....or 2

VelocityMark 03-19-2003 08:50 PM

David are the risers and the manifolds junk?

mikes280 03-19-2003 08:52 PM

David sorry to see this did the motors have gills on them it looks like they must have given up

vagrant 03-19-2003 08:58 PM

Srobak- I am not sure what to think at this point I don't want to start pointing fingers. Bottom line is I should have insisted on a compression check. I ask the surveyor to perform one and his response was that it was not possible for him to do it when the survey was done on the hull. I'm not sure what recourse I will have I doubt any. I was told by one dealer that when they sell a boat that they go through the engines, outdrives and the rest of the boat to make sure that there are no problems. I realize that this is a used boat but I was shocked when I saw the problems with the engines. I have not even drove this boat since I have received it. This just really BITES.

VAGRANT, I am bummed for ya, tell us the story, I knew you got the new boat, so give us the details on the motors....
Bryan

Dredgeking 03-19-2003 08:59 PM

i rented a private plane yesterday and we had some minor mechanical issues on our second take off. the pilot was a bit upset about a recent engine rebuild. i told him this is nothing compared to owning an offshore boat. ;)

Dredgeking 03-19-2003 09:01 PM

vagrant, find an HONEST person to do the rebuilds or you'll be in the same situation again.

vagrant 03-19-2003 09:02 PM

The manifolds are gills with the short risers( bad deal) The manifolds are not in bad shape. I am going to change over to Stainless marine with new risers.

R Addiction 03-19-2003 09:03 PM

Dave, I have a Crown and Coke hear for ya! Sorry to see that, Damn. Keep us posted.

vagrant 03-19-2003 09:07 PM

R addiction- John believe me the Crown has little use for the coke tonight MAN WHAT A DAY.

mikes280 03-19-2003 09:08 PM

you can use the short risers but you need to put the deflector rings between them it will stop the water from going back to the motor

mikes280 03-19-2003 09:10 PM

reminder what i said about getting rid of some of that water other then out the exhaust

SPITFIRE 03-19-2003 09:11 PM

ouch

the saga continues......sorry to here about this david. it's times like these that i'm not upset that i'm boatless. i'm having a miller lite for you right now. let me know if i can help in any way. bill

vagrant 03-19-2003 09:21 PM

Thanks, I will weigh more of my options tomorrow after I can get some phone calls made.

David

P.S. Please pray for our solders and there families as this war begins.

vagrant 03-19-2003 09:28 PM

Thanks Fred ,The boat is down in Jacksonville Fl safe and sound indoors for her new make over. Thanks again for the offer, it means alot.
David

R Addiction 03-19-2003 09:38 PM

Dredgeking, I think I would be worried a little more about the plane losing power than my boat losing power!!!!!;)

I second that thought to our armed forces!!!!:)

Sydwayz 03-19-2003 09:43 PM

Vagrant,
So sorry to hear. I hope things get back together for you soon.

Biggus 03-20-2003 05:00 AM

David,

Man, what a drag! Well, atleast you will be going into the season with fresh power. Who`s doing the work for you?

Good luck,
Kurt

FunHome 03-20-2003 05:58 AM

Were those 500hp's?? If not what were they?

vagrant 03-20-2003 07:13 AM

There 500's . I wish somehow they could turn into 575's but I don't believe that will happen.

vagrant 03-20-2003 07:15 AM

Hey Kurt,
Port Jacksonville marine will be doing the rebuilds. Kevin Brady has won my confidence in that he will make sure a good job will be done.
David

Hey Craig- I haven't stopped yet. LOL

OldSchool 03-20-2003 07:36 AM

:D :D Hang in there. It will be a nice feeling knowing that you've got fresh power back there instead of wondering when/or if it would fail ya:rolleyes:
Yea,I'm trying to find some positive here.:) :)

Craig

florida gator 03-20-2003 08:11 AM

Take my word for it, the feeling once everything is done you quickly forget about all the bs.

Dock Holiday 03-20-2003 06:45 PM

A lesson to be learned by all.

Buyer Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seems you cannot trust people to be honest about the condition of things.

Probably the worse it is the more they lie?

I have learned that you better at least do a compression check, leak down test, pull the thermostat housing and valve covers for a look.

A few hundred spent up front may save you thousands. If the seller refuses to let you spend your money, don't walk, run like hell!

Steet 03-20-2003 07:41 PM

Sorry for you also

Vagrant, Hate to hear about the motors. I just inquired about 2 500 EFI's in the parts section of OSO. Hope everything works out. I think if anything goes wrong with my EFI's I will put in twin 6.5 turbo diesels. They seem to perform very well. If I can get my boat to run as well as the dually, I will be happy.
Talk with you soon.

Gizmo 03-20-2003 09:44 PM

Vagrant, you are scaring the hell out of me. I haven't had mine out yet either. How many hours did yours have showing? I had my boat surveyed also, but due to winter layup, the engines weren't started. I wish you the best on gettng yours back together soon.
