Tweaking:
There are ways of tweaking the system. But unless you know exactly what you are doing, I wouldn't attempt it.
Here is one link: Tweaking Internet Speed Connection

I have cable for local channels only LTD BASIC SERVICE $13.25
COMCAST HIGH SPEED INTERNET SERVICE $42.95
CABLE MODEM RENTAL $3.00
Direct TV $52.99 w/HBO Package
If you are not a cable suscriber at all, and want the Internet service, I believe they charge an addtional $15.00. So for a $1.75 less per month, I have basic tv for those times when the Satellite signal is lost in heavy rains and downpours.

1.6 Mbits/sec with Toshiba cable modem thru an SMC router and thru an SMC wireless 802.11a base to SMC 802.11a wireless card.
Brian, you're not editing the results page are you?
I've got DSL at the office and show a speed of around 480k for the most part.
Sharkey, have they run a new "promotional deal" on broadband in your area lately? Usually they end up overloading a section when they do, and have to come back and add capacity. Be sure to call and talk to a human about it and get as many people in your area to do the same. This happened to me a few years back, and they did add capacity and the speed came back.

Maybe they traded off their downstream for some upstream?
Whatever they did, sure seemed to make a change on my downstream...

I did'nt screen capture around 2.9 megabits. it not doing the test over a long enough time so my burst speed is high , plus I have a piece of firmware for my modem that only few will have
I would say the test is flawed a bit I did some other testing and only recorded results of 2-5 megabit sustained transfers

Here'smy cable modem in Manhattan. Not bad, considering there are a thousand people within a block of me.
Your raw speed was 1795710.14 bits per second which is the same as:
Communications
1.8 megabits per second
Storage
219.2 kilobytes per second
1MB file download
4.7 seconds
