Looking for new Go-Fast

Got turned on to this site and my first poker run and now I'm hooked. We sold our Tiara last fall and the wife almost killed me but I think she really likes the go-fast boats just as well. I'm looking to get into a performance boat this year and my search is just beginning so I thought this would be a good first post. I want something at least 38 ft. with reliable power and I don't like to get beat much so I need something that will get me out towards the front at a run, but still have some room on it as well.
What are some suggestions that you may have for a competitive new performance boater. Thank you, Chet.

right on.

Where will you be boating most, new used. There are alot of variables but if you want big and fast I'll bet you'll get alot of OL,Top Gun, and apache suggestions,
BTW: welcome to the addiction.:D

LapseofReason 04-07-2003 09:44 AM

We need to know how much you want to spend. I have the boat for you 2000 42 sonic. Gen. a/c, stand up head, 75mph ride's like a caddy.

ChetRipley 04-07-2003 10:19 AM

I'm not as concerned with how much I spend as long as I'm happy with the performance of the boat. I am not looking for something that rides like a caddy either or I would have kept the Tiara . We need to be say in the 90 - 100 MPH group.

Sydwayz 04-07-2003 10:25 AM

OK, you gotta give some kind of budget here, or otherwise you are going too have a bunch of ridiculous responses.

Do you like Catamarans or V-Hulls?
Would you like new or used?
Gotta give us a price range...
$ 80K-150K?
$150K-200K?
$200K-250K?
$250K-300K?
$300K on up?

What kind of boats did you ride on/see at your Poker Run experience?

diamonddaveF170 04-07-2003 10:28 AM

Have a 2002 Cigarette Gladiator- Twin 500HP Mercruiser Racing Engines, Stamped & Sealed. Boat has 7 hours on engines sinceredone at CRE in Florida. Boat is brand new and on GPS is top speed 94.3 at Lake X.
@001 Triple axle Myco trailer also to go with it If interested let me know. Have other race boats , so I don't mind letting one go with today's economics.
Dave

LapseofReason 04-07-2003 11:03 AM

46 Skater twin 1450 Sterlings $1.2mil 50 Nortech supercat quad 1200 Sterlings $1.5mil 51 Outerlimits twin stagerd 1450 Sterlings $850,000.00
46 Cigarette twin stagerd 1450 Sterlings $700,000.00
Any of these should keep you in front at a poker run.
When I said ride's like a caddy I just meant your not going to feel like you got hit by a truck at the end of the day.
The only thing my Sonic and your Tiara have in common are they both float.
I know a lot of people that have done just what you are doing and buy just because of MPH, if money is no problem you can go fast and have a nice ride.
Where do you boat, and what other 90-100mph boat's have you driven?

THEJOKER 04-07-2003 11:40 AM

????

Dave:

Why are you already selling the Cig??????? BH

thunderdan 04-07-2003 01:22 PM

I know of two Active Thunders that are for sale that fit your criteria. These boats are both 90-100 mph floating condo's.;)

How bout a 2000 382 Formula Fastech, all the amenities, built rock solid and user friendly for the first time offshore owner. Don't go out and spend the big bucks until you have owned one for a while and know the world of offshores.

Sydwayz 04-07-2003 05:36 PM

Exactly Slingshot.

robsunlimited 04-07-2003 05:59 PM

YOU REALLY SHOULD CONSIDER AN OUTERLIMITS.

I KNOW OF A 37' THAT RUNS 114 WITH A PAIR OF 875 STERLINGS.
AND ONE THAT RUNS 94 WITH A PAIR OF 575'S.

A 42 IS A REAL NICE BOAT AND I KNOW OF 2 THAT RUNS 148 WITH MOTORS THAT MADE AROUND 1400HP.

A 47 IS AN EVEN NICER BOAT I KNOW OF ONE THAT RUNS 128, BUT NOTHING COMPARES TO THEIR 51', I KNOW OF 1 THAT RAN 128 WITH TRIPLE 1200 STERLINGS. THIS BOAT HAD EVERY THING THAT YOU COULD THINK OF, 1400 WATT GENERATOR,2 AC UNITS,3 STEREO SYSTEMS, 2 TV'S, ETC., ETC.,ETC., WITH OVER 6' OF HEAD ROOM AND A SEPARATE SLEEPING AREA WITH AC,STEREO,TV,DVD,SINK. NOT TO MENTION A 51 GOES THROUGH ANYTHING.

P.S. ALL THESE MPH READINGS WERE VERIFIED BY 2 GPS UNITS.
SOME BOATS ARE ONLY FAS AT THE BAR AFTER LOTS OF DRINKING OR FROM READING THE SPEEDOS AT THERE HIGHEST POINT WHEN THEY BOUNCE AROUND DO TO WATER SPIKING,BUT NOT THESE.

I'VE DRIVEN MANY BOATS BUT NOYHING COMPARES TO AN OUTERLIMITS, I'VE ALSO BEEN TO MANY POKER RUNS AND AN OUTERLIMITS ALWAYS GETS TO THE FIRST STOP FIRST (with speeds like that what would you expect) .

NOT TO MENTION THEY ALL LOOK AWESOME.

YOU CAN CONTACT ME IF YOU NEED ANY HELP,I KNOW OF A FEW FOR SALE.

LapseofReason 04-07-2003 06:14 PM

Robsunlimited your Pm is full. How much are the OL's and where are they. I need to sell/trade the Sonic want OL.

H2Xmark 04-07-2003 06:19 PM

look what you got into now Ripley!!!! just picking, if this is your first go fast, find something in the 35 to 38 foot range with 500 are the new 525's, get use to the boat then if you want to go faster add some superchargers, just remember some of the boats listed above with big power and #6 drives are BIG MONEY for upkeep if something goes bang, a drive is 30 to 35000.00 and the engines can go for 35 to 45000.00 a piece, not to mention insurance is very high on a boat that runs at 100 mph's good luck and have fun, and how about a boat ride when you get this new bad boy!!!!!
Mark

SLINGSHOT 04-07-2003 06:47 PM

anyone notice outerlimits always claim top speed but did you ever look at the power they run? 1200's even 1400's! that is crazy, who feels like dealing with all that bs to say that your v bottom runs 148? I wouldnt, why not just buy a cat and ease down on the horsepower and get some realiability...just my .02

and if you put the same hp in a cig or fountain it would probably go just as fast considering they are all about equal with stock ower

cigarette1 04-07-2003 06:49 PM

Here we go !!!!!!

LapseofReason 04-07-2003 06:57 PM

Let's put 3 1000's in a 47 OL 125-130mph. Then the same motor's in a 47 Apache 100-110.
I like the Apache as much as the next guy but there old school. It's like have a cool classic car.
As far as a Cat go's they are fast but most have no cabin to speak of and are hard on drive's. I don't think it's a good idea to go from a cruiser to a 100mph V hull much less a cat.

robsunlimited 04-07-2003 07:22 PM

I'VE BEEN ON SOME OF THOSE OTHER BOATS
THEY WOULD SELF DESTRUCT AT THOSE SPEEDS.

P.S. OWNERS PICK THE ENGINE PACKAGE, SO WHY DOESN'T ANY ONE EVER PUT BIG POWER IN OTHER BOATS, OR DO THEY BUT THERE JUST NOT FAST.

I'M SICK OF HEARING ABOUT HOW OUTERLIMITS PUTS BIG POWER IN ALL OF THERE BOATS. THEY DON'T THE OWNERS DO.THERE MUST BE A GOOD REASON THAT THEY DO THIS. PROBABLY BECAUSE THEY HAVE ALL HAD OTHER BOATS AND KNOW OF WHAT THEY ARE CAPABLE OF. SO GIVE IT UP. AND DON'T KNOCK THEM TILL YOU HAVE RIDDEN IN ONE.

I'M SURE THAT THERE IS NOT ONE PERSON OUT THERE THAT HAS EVER RIDDEN IN ONE AND WAS NOT SURPRISED AT HOW WELL THEY TAKE THE ROUGH WATER.

YOU USUALLY HAVE TO PAY MORE TO BE THE FASTEST OR THE BEST.

AND LAPSE OF REASON IF YOUR NOT BEING SARCASTIC E-MAIL ME

Back4More 04-07-2003 07:40 PM

Sorry....Our boat is not For Sale.:D

LapseofReason 04-07-2003 07:52 PM

I don't own an OL yet, but I am shoping and do want one that is 95 mph+. I do think my 42 Sonic is the perfect boat for this guy to move into or one in the same class. I will have mine soon so you can bust my ball's all you want when I post my new boat. A 130 mph first performance boat is not a good idea I don't think. So I hope yall don't think that is what I want.

L/R .... that wouldn't be your FIRST performance boat .... go for the 130 mph boat ..... Yeah Baby :D

Back4More 04-07-2003 07:55 PM

I road on the very first 37' Stiletto, 900 MRD's and #6's on boxes...does that count?
I don't think they had the setup dialed in back then.
It ran a 100mph on flat water, but was a bit scary in 4-6 footers.

BLee 04-07-2003 07:55 PM

CIGARETTE1 HE POSTED THAT HE DOESN'T LIKE TO GET BEAT MUCH SO HE WOULD NEED SOMETHING TO GET HIM OUT FRONT AT THE RUNS. THAT WOULD BE AN OUTERLIMITS
AND IT'S THE GUYS THAT ALWAYS CUT UP OUTERLIMITS THAT PROBABLY WISH THEY COULD HAVE ONE OF THERE OWN.

SO GFYS !!!!!:o  :o :D :D :D

LapseofReason 04-07-2003 07:59 PM

No the next boat will be boat # 8 and had a few in the mid 80's. I also have been racing stuff for 25 years so I know what it feels like to f up and fall down thats why I say work your way up.

LapseofReason 04-07-2003 08:03 PM

CONGRATS SCOTT, AND I WILL DEFINATELY TAKE YOU UP ON THAT

SLINGSHOT 04-07-2003 08:23 PM

I WASNT KNOCKING OL JUSTS SEEMS THAT THEY ALL HAVE BIG POWER SO IT MAKES THEM FAST AND DRAWS ATTENTION AND THUS MAKES THEM POPULAR, AND TRUE A EQUALLY POWERED APACHE WILL RUN SLOWER BUT I GUARANTEE THE RIDE AINT THE SAME WHEN THE WATER GETS ROUGH, AND IF YOU SAY IT IS WELL THEN YOUR THE CHEERLEADER. I LIKE THE OL'S, JUST WOULDN T BE MY BAG OF CHIPS, I WOULD GO THE CAT ROUTE IF I WANTED A STABLE SAFE ROCKET(NO PUN INTENDED)

DONT GET YOUR PANTIES IN A BUNCH

LapseofReason 04-07-2003 08:31 PM

I'am not Knocking Apache, I have not been in one in the water but I have been in a few OL and I don't see how any boat could ride so much better that you would just have to have it. But for me I boat on the Potomac river and it doesn't get rough to often so having a steped bottom will help in the mph. As long as it rides as good as the Sonic I'am happy I just want it to turn better.

Does it have to be they idolize you because you have an OuterLimits?

Tonto 04-07-2003 08:49 PM

I wouldn't say that everyone comes out of the woodwork when someone offers a boat at a good deal. I put a killer price on that 41 pleasure and no takers, go figure. Guess I'm just another antique collecter.
Robert

outer42 04-07-2003 08:51 PM

tonto throw in free tours of the hot spots in the keys you're famous for,i might think of it,if i didn't just buy.
