Cig 3, It is 2.5 inches shorter like Tinker said. The case starts out the same as the 2.4, 2.5 CLE it gets some different finishing touches. In the right situation on the right boat 5 mph was possible. Doesn't mean everyboat will benefit from it. It should only be used with small blocks up to 300 hps. If your were determined a counter set up is possible. Good Luck.

I have one on my boat.. for $3500 I can sell it. Fresh rebuild previous owner had done. Just painted a few months back, black top, silver bottom. Drive shower included. Been running a 550+ hp small block behind it since july. You will never hurt it with the right driving. Hell I spin mine sometimes up to 6500 rpm getting on plane, cavataite like hell getting on plane but when she hooks up... ACCELLAAARRRAATIONN!!

Alpha 1 SS Lower

Does anyone know if it is possible to put an Alpha 1 SS lower on a stock '86 Alpha Gen 1 upper? I have heard it only requires a different drive shaft. Will the cases match up?
Thanks.........RJ

I had a 22' pachanga witha 330 horse 454. I gained just under 5mph with this drive. I was easy out of the hole never had a problem. And they are 2.5 inches shorter. Go for it!!!

I don't know anybody that's used one with a stock upper gear case and a longer driveshaft... not saying it can't be done, but the main advantage is the 2.5" shorter overall and the shorter driveshaft is unobtanium

What year was the Gen II first out? I think '87 was the first year for the SS and seem to recall it being a Gen II upper...not sure though.

If someone can machine an alignment shaft, how hard would it be to reproduce the SS driveshaft?

I was thinking the same thing on making one.... my SS upper and lower was the real beans on a shortened Gen 1 style upper and Jamie's was on a modified Gen II upper
