LOW-RIDE-ER !!

Several years ago, when I was still drag racing a 20' Allison with a Merc 2.5 hung on the transom, I forgot to put in the drain plug. We had problems with the motor all day and finally got it fixed at the last minute just in time to make the class. We quickly put the boat in the water and when I got to the milling area and let off the foot throttle I felt this gush of water around my feet. I immediately knew what we forgot to do. We did manage to get it back on the trailer and make the race. We didn't win but we didn't sink either, so it was a good day after all. Everybody dumbs off once in a while.

I came real close. Last year I pulled my new (to me) 311 home from New Jersey. As I was backing down the launch ramp at my marina one of the yard guys who had come to look at the boat casually asked if i was going to put the plug in. Ummm, yeah, ummm, I was just getting the boat closer to the water, ummm ...

Been there, done that. Fortunately, didn't even get it off the trailer before pump kicked on and was able to pull her back out before heading out.
