call them things "tie the thing in the back" "clip the thing in the front" "get the thing on the side?

Farmers use ropes. Sailors use lines. (using "sailors" collectively)

About 15 years ago i tied my wife to the sunpad of a chris craft stinger late at nite in a marina:eek: i used the lines that were on the boat.did they become rope when attached to her wrists?:D did she get rope burns or line burns:confused:

It depends on where it is. A rope is a rope unless it's on a boat. Then it's always line.

O.D.R.F.'s (On Demand Restraint Facilitators) are a fixture on all modern day pleasure craft. Originally designed as woven hemp hausers, the design was completely updated in 1998 by Formulaic Marine, whose designers pioneered the C.C.O.I. technological breakthrough (Color Coordinated Optic Imagery). Since the addition of C.C.O.I. , Formulaic customers and ad agencies have reported speed increases of three to five MPH. Many professional power boat racers have reported even greater improvements because, in the words of one humble competitor: " We are the only one's skilled enough to really make these babies run".

I have a few dock lines, a couple of ski ropes and an anchor rope.

T2x, I have found the same. my boat was 5mph faster with the colored lines.Otto

I'm going to get 1-2 miles per more with the new monogramed lines next.Otto

My boat has ropes. It has a front, rear, left side, right side. I go to the front, sometimes I go to the back. I call people on the radio. I keep the bumpers under the seat. Just tell me to toss you the line that holds it centered while in the slip.
Port, starboard, aft, fore, hail, lines, fenders, spring lines are terms that do not get a response, or at least a useful one while in my boat. :p K.I.S.S. |
