The single is a Crapshooter; comes out of Greenfield, IN. Mine doesn't run as well, but the builder has his coming off the turns at 91MPH radar and pulling more than 13Gs in the turns. It weighs less than 6lbs, dress ready to race, less fuel. It runs a 7.5cc single cylinder nitro two stroke. I built and sold a scaled down version called the BlackJack that runs a 3.5cc that runs well north of 75MPH. The inline twin is a scratch build, modeled after the Crapshooter, including the engine, entirely scratch designed and built by yours truly. I have not run a boat in over a decade, but don't consider myself out of the hobby. I tell people I didn't stop running boats to start my machining business, but the timing is conspicuously coincidental. Prior to that, I raced regionally pretty consistently for the better part of two decades, traveling as far south as Charleston, SC and a far north as London, Ontario. Good Times..... Thanks. Brad. |

I know of Mike L, but don't know him personally. I wanted to get the solid model for the '69 Pride of Pay'nPak to build a wood over foam model to race in 1/8Scale, but he wouldn't come off it. From my memory, these boats were both build before ML was widely known. Thanks. Brad. |
Oh ok ,Cool how fast they are, gotta luv it!!!
|
Alfred,
This is real time and not time modified. This is probably running mid 80's and not holding particularly close to the course. Thanks. Brad. |
My God!!! it looks like it's on rails
|
Alfred,
They just about are. There’s a massive (relatively speaking) turn fin that holds them in the turns. I wasn’t kidding when I said 13Gs in the turns. We’ve actually put strain gauges on the boom tubes. This is a friend of mine I built a kit for. He’s been a thorn in the side of the B-Hydro class with it ever since. If you watch, he comes from almost last place, on the outside, and takes the field before the end of lap two. Thanks. Brad. |
I'd like to watch one of these races in person. We dont have them around here anymore. To many Tree Huggers. The whole world is going sissy mary on us! OOOOOH Noise Fuel , pollution. In the 80's we had a Cranbury bog reservoir in a industrial park we used to run at and they squashed that by 1998 . So now I have to launch my 14 ft Aluminum boat in a public lake, go out in the middle to run my boats. and the residents still complain. Hate Massachusetts. Bunch of mama's flamers.

I can't help you with your location, other than this: You're in District 1 I wholly agree with your commentary, though. Thanks. Brad. |
Thank You fellows. This thread now 'screams'. The amount of models are so impressive that it's without doubt like having
a museum class personal watercraft collection at home. Hat's off! |
Very impressive in all aspects! Any chance of mounting a go pro style cam for a pov angle?
|
Wow , looks like a great room to live out enjoying what you do ! Love all the boats !
|
They have something similar at the LOTO Shootout. I go out and watch them for 1 day at HAHA TONKA State Park. Some big iron shows up and they are really cool to watch. I would really like to build or get one, but every time I've tried driving a RC anything, it crashes!. I lost 2 drones last year out at my river place. They just flew away, never to be seen again. One did show up while mowing a couple months later, it was trashed.

Pov ???>?>?? what is that?

It's been done. It's underwhelming. Could be that nobody has ever done it with one of these serious racing boats. The problem is that the CG and aerodynamics of these boats are fairly critical, and a GoPro messes with both pretty bad. Thanks. Brad. |

I'm one eye from blind, having lost my left eye to a retinal blastoma when I was 4yo. I have no binocular vision, and, therefore, no depth perception. This is why I've always stuck to 2-dimensional RC stuff, specifically the boats. And even then, the end of the back stretch, entering into what NASCAR would call turn 3, has always been a challenge for me. Most guys I raced against regularly learned when they could pass me on the inside if they could, because I was bad for overshooting the turn. A high vantage point driver's stand really helped. I've stood on 5gal buckets on many occasions. It's actually surprising how well these boats behave. The hardest thing to teach newer drivers is to actually squeeze the trigger and load the turn fin. They don't really like to turn at slower speeds. The outriggers, anyhow, which is all I've ever driven consistently. Once you've got them dialed in and set up right, they go pretty much exactly where you tell them to. Sometimes, this is the actual problem, though. The other thing is to get them to take rudder throw OUT of their steering. The rudders on the boats in the videos are only turning about 5° or so to make these turns. It's nutz how hard they turn with so little rudder deflection. Thanks. Brad. |

A GoPro camera mounted on the boat for a 1st person perspective of the boat running. Thanks. Brad. |
, Oh you mean like this? Its a 40 inch dumas scarab that I converted to center console
|
Awesome models in this thread, I keep thinking about getting one to scratch that itch but man I don't need another hobby!
|
This R/C CC is just freakin' unbelievably full-scale looking. For a video shot 9 years ago, the footage is exceptional.
