Have a handheld if you need redundacy a KVH you can still read when your traditional compass is spinning like a top because of rough water.

I narrowed it down to a Ritchie RU-90 and the SS 1000.

It looks like the SS 1000 is more designed for bouncing around, so thats the way I am gonna go...

I have that compass and have had no problems except the difference in colors (faded bezel) the white mounting bezel has turned to a dirty white beige color. I have to do something with it (drives me crazy). I may paint it to match my gauge bezels or send it to Ritchie for repair.
Just thought you may want to know this could happen

Thanks for the tip. While I was shopping, I noticed they make covers for the model you have. Perhaps once you get it changed, it will keep it from happening again...
