I've seen ramps soooooo bad that nothing but 4WD would work.....I bought the Bayliner in Lake Lanier Ga.......we took it out the ramp near the dealer and I about **** myself.......

This friggin ramp was straight up and down.......Put it this way the car we brought was parked sideways and you had to use your feet to open the door uphill.....fuggin stupidest thing I have ever seen in my life!!!!!

Default Go to lake cumberland, Jamestown...

Not even a question. Jamestown Marina, lk. cumberland.
Had to put it in four wheel to climb out of the water and up
the mountain. I would still be there with a 2 wheeler.
Plus the mid west with a one legger?
If I use 4 wheel once a winter its worth it. JC

My crew dually 4x4 has never needed 4wd to pull my Pantera out of the water. I have nice BFG All Terrains, and obviously the dually helps.
I too am considering a new truck. I will not spend the cash on 4wd (I live in Fl). I will get a posi rear and have decent tires on the new truck.
You will need 4wd if the truck is light or has a wimpy engine. DIesels and big gas engines have no trouble pulling a boat up the ramp without wheelspin, or the aid of Low range.

I know that i'd have to get 4wd for the sake of low range if I was going to try to pull with a 1/2 ton...
I know a guy with a Tahoe.. he uses it to put his 280SS Formula in the water (doesn't to on the road). He has to use 4 low to get the boat up the ramp...

I've never had to use 4 whl drive before and I've been on some serious steep inclines too. I'm towing 7,000 lbs now, but who knows how much more in the future... I can't see myself bigger than a 30' with twin inboards. I know the truck can handle 22,000 lbs that is not in question.

I'm asking you how often if ever have you had to use 4 whl drive to get out of the water towing your boat?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

I'm not sure what type of truck you are talking about That can tow 22,000 lbs. If your talking about a F650 than 2wd is fine. But if you are talking normal pick up one ton or less don't waist your time with 2wd.

I use 4-low everytime whether I think I need it or not. I would much rather have it and not need it as opposed to need it and not have it...

Check out this thread.

Dude, there are many people, many people pulling weight like this, maybe not the 3/4 ton, I slipped there...however, there are a lot of trucks pulling that kind of weight. For example, ever seen a goose neck with 5 cars/trucks towing?

This thread is not about this and that. I'm not going there anymore.

Been there on that ramp and even steeper. I didn't have to use it there. I appreciate your thought.

I will go with a 4whl drive regardless because I'm only saving $10 a month. That is nothing.

Becca you hit the nail on the head-- just for the winter i'd want it.
But even at the ramp it's nice I pull a 13,500 pound boat and trailer out with my little 1500 silverado 4WD in 4 low

Slow and steady wins the race! Nothing worse than getting it half way out and getting pulled back while everyone else is waiting to pull out there boats/jet skis
