My new purchase......

i was going to keep it a secret, but for the sake of stopping the incoming emails and PM's about it, i might as well let it fly. about a year ago to the date, i spoke with an individual about selling his boat. the boat was not officially on the market, but since i had always thought a lot of it, i decided to approach him about possibly selling. he entertained the idea, but was still a bit reluctant. i myself, had a boat to sell and did not want to be a two boat owner, so negotiations ended at that point. about 45 days ago, i sold my 33' Outlaw and began my search for a new boat for the summer. once again, i approached the same owner to entertain the idea of selling his boat. as the boat was not on the market, he was caught off guard once again. after some negotiations, we put a contract together contingent upon a proper inspection and sea trial by the buyer. this past weekend i had an opportunity to inspect the boat and perform a sea trial. to say the least, i was pleasantly surprised by the appearance and performance of the boat. i was most surprised by the lack of any visible chaffing marks on the hull from leaving the fenders out while ripping up the water. :D on a serious note, the seller was absolutely accurate about his representation of the boat in almost every way. as we arrived back at port, we closed the deal. in a little over a week, my new boat will be arriving in LOTO. i'm very excited to say the least. my entire experience was a pleasure and i hope that i have a good of luck with it as the previous owner. so what did i buy??????? let's just say that Board God #1 is boatless....... :D

pictures coming soon.......

Very Cool......Congrats!!

obnoxus 06-03-2003 09:53 AM

I have some great video of that boat when we were in Cali. Dman was generous enough to give us a ride. I promised it to Jeff, but have not been able to get it digitized. We have a new puter coming that has that capability.

I wil get it to both as soon as I can.

You wont be dissapointed with that boat.

I remember the five foot-itis comment!

Congrats bro!!!

ChrisK 06-03-2003 10:34 AM

SWEET boat!...

Audiofn 06-03-2003 10:43 AM

WOW you did well to get that thing. I am sure you enjoyed the weekend out there as well. Those guys always put on a good time. As far as Jeff being up front. That boat is so clean that I do not think you could probably find any dirt on it, maybe some glitter but that is another story all together. Congrats on the purchase you got one HELL of a boat.

Jon

Audiofn 06-03-2003 10:44 AM

Oh ya. Do yourself a favor and talk to Stinson about the handling and driving of that thing. I am sure he can give ya some good pointers.

Gordo 06-03-2003 11:12 AM

Congrats Chad !!

Having driven a couple of Gladiators myself, may I suggest you get to know her a little before you get WFO. I have no doubt you'll have her flying in no time.

Good luck!

Gary Anderson 06-03-2003 11:19 AM

So you think driving a Cig will get you a date with Connor?
Sorry, I couldn't help it.
:D

Glad to see the boat is staying within the OSO family.

Good luck and I'm sure I'll be seeing you during the Shootout weekend.

Hey Audiofn, you left out the last part of your message - it should've read

"Oh ya. Do yourself a favor and talk to Stinson about the handling and driving of that thing. I am sure he can give ya some good pointers. And whatever he tells you, DON'T do it!" :D :D :D

j/k Stinson...

Cord 06-03-2003 12:08 PM

I too had heard the rumor. Congrats!

HiPerf2000 06-03-2003 12:10 PM

Good luck.

tanned fat looks better 06-03-2003 12:33 PM

Good looking ride...........It'll fit right in at LOTO.

jawbreakerkid 06-03-2003 12:41 PM

thanks again. i'm hoping stinson used up all of the bad luck stored in the boat! :D

i don't want to give away all of the secrets, but it is 540 cu./in. running about 4lbs of boost. :) the power is mated to the IMCO Extreme Advantage SC drives.

Steve_H 06-03-2003 12:49 PM

Payton 06-03-2003 01:22 PM

Chad! That's great! Congrats on the new boat.

BLee 06-03-2003 01:26 PM

Hell.......Yeah! I heard someone was trying to get Jeff to sell. I guess it worked! Beautiful beautiful boat, but of course, it's a Cigarette. What would you expect?:D

PhantomChaos 06-03-2003 02:23 PM

Congrats Little Guy!

Too bad it won't be running in the type of water that is was made for anymore...........OFFSHORE!!! :D :D :D

That Cig will be just as bored on LOTO as the rest of the Cig's on that lake, but it should last longer now since the boating season is only 3 months long. :D :D :D :D :D

Chad is certainly persistent! Needless to say that I would have been hard pressed to find someone better to take care of SpeedRacer in its next life (as a lake boat)! :D

As is the case with any new boat - taking it easy for a few weeks is a good idea. This boat - despite some of the rumors - is the best balanced boat I have ever owned or driven. It flies as level as any boat could. It may not like the wakes of other boats or making sharp turns at 80mph :D (ala Stinson) but it sure likes to run!

Unless Chad has some serious cajones - it is unlikely that he will ever peg the throttles. It ran 89-90 mph with stock HP500's (salt water). With the 740 hp blower motors I could only muster enough courage to see in the mid to high 90's with another 500 rpm to redline. That's what 7800 pounds and BIG steps gets you - ALOT of air under the hull!

Here is a pic taken on its last day in the water here in Southern Cal. I led the "short course" boats one way from Long Beach back down to Newport Beach - about 18 miles.

Have fun with "her" Chad. Treat her right and she'll never let you down!! Treat her like Stinson did and she'll kick you on your ass! Ha ha! :D

JEFFREY,
I CAN ASSURE YOU, IF HE DOESN'T... I DO!
DON'T WORRY I'LL MAKE SURE SPEED-RACER REPRESENTS AT LOTO. IT'S LIKE FRICKIN' CHRISTMAS AROUND HERE, I'M EXCITED AND IT'S NOT EVEN MY BOAT!!!!!!!!!
REGARDS

That is the million dollar question Fred. I must have been asked that a few hundred times this past weekend. The answer? I honestly don't know.

The boat is still physically here in my rack at the dry storage facility next to DMAN's :hothead: Top Gun. We are down there almost every weekend whether we are boating or not. The reality of it being gone will not likely set it until I see the empty rack and realize that it is actually gone for good. Until then I am sort of crusing along and haven't given it much thought. Nothing jumps out at me at the moment.

All of you guys will undoubtedly know soon enough when I finally make a decision.
