Cord,
You must have had a K&N air filter not a USCG approved flame arrestor. So much for arresting the flame. Knowing that, I would go Gaffrig, unless you want a flaming purple air filter burning in your engine compartment. |
Funny, The K&N is USCG approved. I got mine through carshopinc.com. Best price anywhere. Powdercoat the polished stainless top in candy purple. it looks great, like an anodize. I've used a few of the candy powdercoats, I like them.:)

Hey Ryan I think we are meeting at Johnny's on 119th again before the LOTO boat show on the 24th. Will we see you there?
|
My K&N was Coast Guard approved! The filter is made of cotton which is oiled. My engine backfired and presumably spit some gas out. I saw the backfire, but didn't see the filter light up. Somebody who was standing further away shouted that it was on fire! I ignored them assuming there was a little fire in the carb throat that would go out. The air cleaner kept on smoking which didn't seem right. I bent down and it was glowing like a cigarette butt. I ended up throwing it overboard.
