It depends. A Cable modem is faster, however the further downline from the local switch you are and the more people using it will slow the connection down. You won't run into that problem with DSL. Unless you are downloading a lot of large files you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two.

Also depends on what DSL service you can get in your area they range from 144Kb up to 8 Mb downstream and 128Kb to 1.5Mb upstream. My cable is about 3Mb down and 256Kb up. Just ask your provider and ask the cable provider how many subscribers on your node to see how many people you will share the bandwidth with.
