SBI Race

Anyone have a count as to how many boats showed up for Camp Reggie this weekend?

xracer 08-02-2003 12:28 PM

WHO CARES!!!!!

boater31v 08-02-2003 04:53 PM

Why does the count of boats matter as long as everyone there is having a safe and good time.

Sounds like the Kilo's went well. Congrats! Bacardi!

Viper One 08-03-2003 12:50 AM

Just heard small turnout. 4 stock boats 5 super V's a 1 f1 1f2 a couple of p class boats and a couple of big cats, maybe 15 boats total

puder 08-03-2003 01:06 AM

ouch

Waterfoul 08-03-2003 02:40 AM

Not too great a turn out eh?

RumRunner 08-03-2003 08:21 AM

There isn't any information on their site yet, not even about the Kilo's.

Fast Shafts 08-03-2003 10:00 AM

Did Bacardi race anyone?

iveyhoe 08-03-2003 08:21 PM

Bacardi did not race anyone. I think F2-76 won they class.

sauron 08-03-2003 08:34 PM

I will try to answer all the questions. Pier 57 broke on the second lap but was half a lap behind anyway, Bacardi was gone. Muscle was leading a close race with Firewater until Muscle broke. Switch second, Shockwave third, Instigator fourth after a spin out around the 3rd or 4th lap. They restarted after loosing a lap and ran hard the rest of the way. Sea tow broke off a blade while leading and Berry Cuda won. Total of 14 boats started. Very sad that it has come to this. Watching Bicardi at about 160 was worth the 5.00 admission but all in all SBI looks dismall at best. Little Reggie and Jeff did not race because the transmissions were running too hot. The boat ran 122 right out of the box and heard that the boat would run 130 in cool mornings. Looks like the Super V class is the next to go.

Pete B 08-03-2003 09:08 PM

thanks for the update, sauron, yes it does suck. i wish their was a solution to this matter.

I bet they'll have close to 35 boats for the NY race. For some reason, that race seems to be a real favorite with the racers.

AugiePensa 08-04-2003 06:31 AM

Bubba and SBI will be just FINE!

Viper One 08-04-2003 07:59 AM

Not to get into an SBI/APBA pissing contest here but what really sucks is that because of the politics of these two groups, some really great classes of racing have either been lost or are dying a slow death. Super V-5 boats left, Super Cat Lite 4-6 boats maybe, prostock dead, stock 4-6 boats, Superboat 2-3 boats left. Its unfortunate because there still are alot of good race boats out there sitting around not racing because either there is no class for them anywhere, or the rules have changed and made the boats noncompetitive or that the cheating aspect has left a bitter taste in peoples mouth regarding racing. I know some people would say goto P class racing but I think that most racers after having raced on Sundays would not want to race short races on Saturdays. Their egos would'nt permit that.

SummerObsession 08-04-2003 08:05 AM

The simple solution is that eventually the race teams will want some real competition and will have nowhere to go BUT APBA. I can't imagine a trophy meaning much to anyone that was the only competitor.

130 sounds pretty impressive, what horse power are they running?

Magicfloat 08-04-2003 08:49 AM

Next up is Orange Beach,Alabama August 22-24. Rumor has it a lot of locals will run P-Class. We will be there to do the Poker Run and watch the race and just hang out. This will be our first SBI race, hopefully it will be a nice event. Some pretty strong sponsors, they even bought a large ad in Sunday's Birmingham News newspaper, not a cheap thing.Orange Beach,Al is a cool place, anyone going, let me know, Karen and I will be hanging around the famous Florabama. I'm not into politics, just enjoy good racing.

mmwalters 08-04-2003 09:16 AM

SummerObsession Do you really think the prize money is important to the teams.? I figured for the amount of money any team spends on just travel and expenses That a little prize money would not matter. But I could be wrong:chimp:

I didn't say anything about prize money. As with most any kind of racing, egos and pride play a huge part. My point is that if you are a "World Champion" in a class that has no other boats show up, so what:rolleyes:

I could be a "World Champion" Indy car driver if no other cars showed up.

mmwalters 08-04-2003 01:10 PM

SummerObession Ok I missread your post. I do agree first place with only entry only means you did show up. To out run good competition is what it is all about:frog:

stevequick 08-04-2003 05:12 PM

Just returned from North Carolina. I think I can speak for everyone who attended. We had a great time. Alabama will be epic. The promoter and his entire staff was in NC. They are rolling out the red carpet for us. They made it clear that everyone is welcome.

News Flash: Referee disqualified and new inspection team disassembled motors. Yes, this is SBI and no it is not a misprint.

A step in the right direction to increase boat count. It shows me they may start paying attention to the rules.

sauron 08-04-2003 05:32 PM

Excuse me, but who is referee?

Magicfloat 08-04-2003 06:14 PM

I agree that the Alabama race will be well worth attending.I have some phone #'s for condos overlooking the course,e-mail me if interested

Qball 08-04-2003 09:19 PM

NY will be the race

If everything goes as planned the NY race should have 30-35 boat for SBI.....we will be there

BRUCE SEROFF 08-04-2003 09:26 PM

should be more than that Q

Viper One 08-04-2003 09:35 PM

Its good to hear that SBI now has some technical inspectors at the races. Have they started weighing boats yet?

Qball 08-04-2003 09:43 PM

your right!!!

I forgot to add the boats that are running the national circuit....

BRUCE SEROFF 08-04-2003 09:46 PM

If John allows a one time entry fee, I would think between 40 and 50 boats.

Maybe that Frank guy would make the trip too.
