A Must Read For Skipper Bud's Northpont Customers

I HEAR THERE IS A MAJOR MECHANICAL PROBLEM WITH THE FORKLIFT AT SKIPPERS IN NOPRTHPOINT, WINTHROP HARBOR,ILLINOIS. FOR THOSE ON THE RACK CALL FIRST. IT IS A BIG ENOUGH PROBLEM THAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY "HOPE" TO HAVE IT FIXED FOR THIS WEEKEND. KEEP YOUR FINGERS CROSSED. NO BOATING ON LABOR DAY.

HARD ENOUGH TO KEEP THE BOAT RUNNING.

Wally 08-27-2003 10:22 AM

oh man! thats gonna ruffle allot of feathers there!!! If i was them i'd have a guy on a plane from the factory on his way down right now!!!

Zoomnfun 08-27-2003 10:32 AM

I wonder if it was a noise violation???

The service people for the Forklift co. were there untill mid-night. So far "A" for effort "F" for results.

They could call "Avis Rent a 17,000 lbs Forklift."

Wally 08-27-2003 11:02 AM

I guess they need to get one of the porters to drive the other forklift down from Racine! LOL :D

dockrocker 08-27-2003 11:22 AM

In case you were wondering about those marina forklifts, most are made by Wiggins Lift company. They're called Marina Bulls and come in several different sizes including the W520M2; this puppy can put a 42' Searay Sundancer up on the second rack, according to their website!

Just a dumb question from a guy thsts never seen forklifts used to move boats. Do they actually put the boat in the water with the fork lift, or just use it on the racks?

Brad Zastrow 08-27-2003 12:25 PM

The forklift picks the boat out of the water and moves it to a rack typically indoors.

Mad Hatter 08-27-2003 12:28 PM

The buttom that says "caps lock," hit that one more time.

They actually set it right in the water. There are big rubber tubes that go over the forks and each fork can move hydraulicly in several directions. What is amazing is to watch the boat and lift bounce as they drive them.

Looney Tune,
Who did you talk to, Alex? Did they say what was wrong with it? Maybe they will fix that bushing on the right fork while they are at it.

I am sure they will do what ever they can, the fork operators will be pissed if they miss out on labor day weekend tips!

It still surprises me that an operation as big as Skipper Buds only has one fork. Bald Knob has 3 of them, go figure...

Rick

p.s. did you download those pictures yet for me?

CigDaze 08-27-2003 12:38 PM

How big of a facility is this? How can they only have one fork truck? We have three running at our marina.

rv 08-27-2003 12:42 PM

Here is a link to the Northpoint location.
http://www.skipperbuds.com/index.asp...743&bvdid=2592

They have 3 large sheds, two are mainly used for the fork operation. Spring and fall they put in/out over 900 boats from/for storage.

CigDaze 08-27-2003 12:49 PM

Thanks for the link.
Looks like a nice, large facility from the pics.
They need another truck.

Rick, I sent the pics to you via Offshore Only Private message. I assume by your message you did not get them. Maybe check your PM mail box. If not pls give me you're e-mail address and I will e-mail them tommorow.

As far as the Fork, I spoke to Jim W at Skippers. It did not sound encouraging.

rv 08-27-2003 12:59 PM

Elliot,
Thanks, I got them. I sent you a reply.

Rick

Zoomnfun 08-27-2003 02:14 PM

Hope they are trying to get a back up just in case?

Looney Tune 08-27-2003 02:24 PM

HMMMM-What if I back the Tahoe up to the boat and everbody pushes the boat onto the roof rack. Could work:crazy:

The wife had a good idea...If they can't get it fixed, everyone come over for a broken fork truck pool party.

Looney Tune 08-27-2003 02:32 PM

Forget boating, I'm in broken or not. I promise to wear a one piece.

rv 08-27-2003 03:12 PM

I'm with Elliot, count me in Mark. Nice setup, Wendy would love that in our backyard!

KAAMA 08-27-2003 09:17 PM

I would try and get the word out to all the other boaters who have in/out service and have them give Skipper's a call and shake them up a little and put the pressure on!

You know thats a good idea. Then BACK 4 MORE can be the first on the Fork when it is fixed just to make sure his boat does not accidentally slip off those forks.:p

rv 08-28-2003 10:06 AM

I just got an update on the Fork. A new engine is scheduled to arrive by 11am today. They hope to have it installed and running by COB today. Sounds like the weekend is a go!

Rick

Looney Tune 08-28-2003 11:18 AM

I also called and got the same update. :D I heard the Fork will go 0-60 in 10 minutes with that new engine.

If anyone is interested there is a tunnel boat race in Kankakee Il this weekend. The APBA OPC national event is going on http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...threadid=58036 That's if they can't get your boats in the water.
