Miami Boat Show 2004

Feb 12 - Feb 17

http://www.discoverboating.com/boats...ex.asp?bhcp=1#

I know its WAY early, but I've never been and I want to start doing some planning.

What is the normal length of stay?
I was thinking of arriving on Thursday and leaving on Monday.

Where to stay?
What are the best/cheapest hotels to look at that are close to all the action?

THRILLSEEKER 09-02-2003 10:26 AM

Yeah and how far ahead to call and get reservations??

WARPARTY36 09-02-2003 11:26 AM

Eyezlee buy me a plane ticket and we can stay at my condo. That way you don't have to rent a car or anything. I hope you are not afraid of heights.

Smitty 09-02-2003 11:52 AM

Definately coming back. Stayed in Ft. Lauderdale this year from Thursday through Monday and flew back on Tuesday. Lauderdale was a little cheaper and we had unlimited miles on the rental.

THRILLSEEKER 09-03-2003 02:15 PM

for 200 a night I think I will take my chances sleeping in the bed of my truck with a loaded .44;)

WARPARTY36 09-03-2003 02:31 PM

I think we need to all meet for a drink at the Apache bar on 188th. I assume they are still open, they were after New Year's. We need to salute the old alley. I am sure it is probably flat by now.:( :(

CustomRigger101 09-03-2003 03:15 PM

i'll have to work it and take boats out on sea trials..

CustomRigger101 09-03-2003 03:16 PM

plus i'll be at the Lauderdale show working.....

Scott B 09-03-2003 04:05 PM

Ahh, you better BYOB to the old Apache bar, or should I say the empty lot that was...

In Miami, you'd probably wake up with your truck and .44 gone and nice egg on your dome!

Don't do what I did last year, just go and look for a motel. There ain't none! We ended up staying up in Lauderdale in crap motels for a lot more than they are worth. Make your res now!

blown formula 09-03-2003 11:24 PM

Paul,
Made reservations last year in August. Found rooms for $85.00 night 1 block from the front door of the convention center..... upgraded for another 10 bucks for ocean view!! Have yet to make the reservations for this year, but we are going!

Macklin 09-04-2003 06:51 AM

YOOHOO!! Got the green light to make the trip down this year with the other HRPA regulars!

Thank you Babe!! :D

The one condition is that we have to fly further south after the show. Hum, which island shall we pick?

Thats the "new" one in that strip mall. The original went down with Fort Apache. It was on the water. It had a Cigarette Bullet as a stage for the band.

WARPARTY36 09-04-2003 10:36 AM

Yes, the strip mall bar was the one I was referring to. I think that is as close as we are going to get.

Make sure we have our hats and our I'M AN OKIE t-shirts.:D :D

ricklehe 09-04-2003 06:02 PM

Hey OKIE - don't forget your cowboy hat to go with that t-shirt!

And

The FPC poker run doesn't go to Key West after the Miami Boat Show - we are going to Key West in November for the APBA finals and in March for Spring Break. We go to the middle keys in Feb.

OBNOXUS21 09-04-2003 06:11 PM

I'm going to make it this year. I was about 5 minutes from purchasing tickets last year when plans fell through :(

blown formula 09-04-2003 09:15 PM

;)
This year, something NEW!! A block party friday thru sunday 5-7pm each day..... free!! drinks specials, entertainment, prizes, etc...... sounds like a "Keeper!!"

everyplace I check on the net, I find- No Rooms Available..... got my "agent" workin' on it now.... :D
She's the one that found the Ocean front rooms, 1 block away for $89.00 !! I hope I'm that lucky again.

We will bring our National Championship ring with us when the NCAA gets them designed. ;) :D

SheriTopGun 09-04-2003 10:52 PM

I've gone the last 2 years and stayed in Lauderdale both times. Generally hit the show Thurs/Fri including in water show. Tons of places in Lauderdale, but the crew is right book now to get a good rate. Try some of these: Radisson Bahia Mar; DoubleTree on A1A; Marriott Marina; Marriott Harbor Beach (spendy but awesome spa on site); Yanker Clipper; Yanker Trader (Sheraton). Hope that helps some. it is an awesome show especially if you live in a brutally cold climate in Feb.

They will probably trade our ring for one of these, that's the only way they will have a ring in Florida.

Puder-Looked and asked for you last year. Had a long chat with some lady who was a boat owner/racer who was at the main counter (think she had rinsed redish hair ). She didn't know of you except to ask, "Is he the young new kid???" I told her I don't know..but he cant spell "Sunsucker".. She didn't understand or laugh so I guess you weren't there..LOL:D :D :D
