I know it was painted at my dad's house.

OMG more Havasu LOTO banter

I thought this was about how we all parked our boats.....nyuck nyuck nyuck.

I got pretty good at backing in the "LutzParty" (11'6" beam) into our 12' slip.

Now that we have a more slender, sleeker and faster craft. I bang into both sides..........  Not really.......but backing with those outdrives is certainly different than backing with inboards. IM heading to LOTO for some more practice this weekend.

Nort and Tank I know we have extended the invitation to you and the rest of the SoCal crowd to come to Loto many times. It really would be fun to see you in the Midwest next summer Or heck even this fall. Its supposed to be 82 this weekend.

Amy and I wil be in Vegas Sept 30th to Oct 4th for a bit of business and some fun any of you gonna be around

thisistank 09-17-2003 09:49 PM

Lutz, where the hell have you been man!? What boat did you end up buying? You're going to be in vegas till oct 4th? You know that's the weekend of the poker run in havasu. We could re-live some old times!:D Tell Amy Kelly and I say hello.

Tank

LutzParty 09-21-2003 01:28 PM

Hey Tank

Ive been around a bit, I guess you have just missed us.

Yeah, Nort called me to tell me what was going on at Havasu that weekend   but we just cant do it. We will be gone from Tuesday through Saturday and would be tooooo hectic to try and squeeze in some boating, as much as we would like to we just cant.

I guess we will just have to see you and Kelly when you come to LOTO next summer. 4th of July would be good (the ice should be melted by then) ha ha ha.

We ended up buying a Formula 311SR and I just realized I dont have a pic of it on this computer. I did post it on the board shortly after we bought it.

LutzParty 09-24-2003 06:49 AM

Nort
Looks like no Havasu for us on the 5th. Just cant make the changes in the trip necessary.

So close and yet so far away, thanks for the invite.

Have fun !

Nice pictures, I think its alot easier to get on and off of the boat like alot of other people have said!!

And for some they just want there beak to hang out ;)

JPD Motorsports 12-22-2003 02:28 PM

I always try to back in for the loading and unloading, also keeps people off the bow. Unless its just a curtesy dock then I hit it from the side.

hotlavey 02-29-2004 11:43 PM

I have a lot more control of the stern then I do the bow when I'm docking. In a current or windy day the bow goes all over hell when I'm trying to pull in to a slip. Backing in is much easier and the help can exit the boat quicker and assist.
Hey Cattitude, what's your price on a Whipple for a HP500EFI?

Thanks, Tom

Offshoreracr 03-01-2004 06:28 AM

Back it in. Easier loading and unloading. Everbody needs to be able to handle their boat that well.

I love this tread and this answer!

Downtown42 03-01-2004 08:03 AM

here's 2 more to back in..Ducks are less likely to shi* on my swim platform which is harder to clean (west coasters can swap duck with sea lion) and if I had #6's the guy trying to get 'em will probably hit his freekin head on the dock so I can find him face down as I sip my morning coffee!! Oh, one more. I seem to make more friends when backed in as the wife sun tans in her skimpy bikini.

that'a about it

mercmatt22 03-01-2004 11:12 PM

I just like backing in. when i pull up and someone else is trying to nose in and having trouble. (pisses them off good)

KH0302 03-02-2004 06:34 AM

As far as lifts go, we build a lift to back in or bow first, not either/or. A backin lift is built deep, there(SHOULDN'T BE) isn't any risk of gelcoat vs. steel or drive vs. bunks. I've lifted lots of boats on backins because the boat was longer than the slip roof and the owner would rather his bow be exposed to the weather and other boats than his stern. We call the manufacturer and find out the max draft wet and add some room for good measure. If you back in and hit your lift then you have a valid beef with the installer.
The last backin we did the drive depth was 39" full of fuel. The lift bunks are 60" under water. Please don't try to back over a bow first lift, I assure you it is a bad idea(as you'll find out when your engine dies).

Everybody backs in here.Just step right off the back of the boat . I can work on the drives from the peir.it would be nice to load from the side but the slip is to wide. We can let the boat down and use the swimplatform to sit on when we have peir partys:D

We even back in up to the sand bars in the no wake zones sand bars. Throw a anchor out front so the drive doesn't touch the bottom . That way we don't have to go across the front and it would be to deep to go off the back. Closer to the beer this way also:D

A.O. Razor 01-26-2012 12:00 PM

We always back in so that we can follow what's happening on the docks around us. Makes for a much more fun and social experience. It also makes for much easier entry. Many boats over here in europe, including our cruiser, has as mentioned, a Passerelle on the back, much easier boarding, and the docks are not very long. In the performance boats, it's also pretty cool when fireing up:coolcowboy: In our marina we think you're an asocial and weird sociopath if you go in bow first:D Gotta love local un-written rules:lolhit::lolhit:

I park on the tee head, the slip hangers can't figure out if I'm comin or going :grinser010:

I like old threads. Only a handful of original posters to this thread are still around. What ever happened to Lutzparty and Miss Amy?

How else are you going to show off your chrome plated headers ?

KNOT-RIGHT 01-26-2012 01:39 PM

Nobody on my boat would have any hair left:eek:

WildThing47 01-26-2012 01:45 PM

+1 Gerry....

Usually the finger piers don't stick out long enough to get off the boat straight in, and if you have any nautical sense you always back in.....

Only people I've seen pull straight in are those who usually are unable to handle their boats, or they're small enough to get away with it...

Also, would you want all your heavy artillery out in the open for some bone head to whack it and go, oh I'm sorry.... ;)

+100. If you have a larger boat, most of the slips are not long enough to be able to get off the boat from the bow as mentioned previously. Plus its much easier boarding from the swimplatform or sun pad.

Most of the slips at the dock bars or waterside restaurants I have been to, atleast 5 to 10 feet of my boat is past the piles into the open water, depending on the place.

Mastercraft240 01-26-2012 03:09 PM

More control backing in as well. Having your pivot point closer to the dock makes it easier....

Cool?No depends on the boat CC any way you want my boat back in off&on easier:drink:

36Tango 01-26-2012 03:27 PM

On our boat, it is sooooo much safer to step off of the swim platform onto the dock, rather than to try to climb out over the bow, especially if the lake is rough. In fact, in the case of my folks, I don't think that they could even get out over the bow, let alone climb back in if we pulled in bow first. Unfortunately my 32 has a single, so it is a bit of a handfull, but with twins, anybody should be able to back in fairly easily. It really has nothing to do with being cool.

hotjava66 01-26-2012 03:49 PM

I only back in if the dock isnt long enough, then again I have a smaller boat so thats a good portion of the time. Just faster and easier going in head first, not because I cant back in, no probs there.

scarabman 01-26-2012 03:51 PM

I usually pull in forward............because I like to admire my boat from the front when I am sitting waterside having a cocktail!!!!!!!!!:drink:

machloosy 01-26-2012 03:58 PM

Backing in makes a lot more sense, but sometimes it gets tricky with a single. Stepping off the swim platform is the biggest plus. And how do you get a drunk girlfriend over the bow??? :evilb:

Underdog88 01-26-2012 04:01 PM

30 ft boat and 15 ft docks... no choice usually. Gotta get my old dog ashore:)

From what I've seen most folks would prefer the bow be pointed towards the traffic that may pass.

It's the wow factor when your blower motors are surgin and rattling the windows why else do you think everyone claps when you shut them down!!!!!!!
