well it wasn't my boat. But it did happen racing.

THANK GOD the safety crew up at Watkins Glen puts out tons fo absorption material. I looped in the boot running about 70-80 and impacted the retainer wall adn impact material. I'm basically totally fine. Sore as hell, a few bruises, severly damaged ego and a really really sore wallet. Considering the wreck the damage isn't too bad. Totally fixxable. The way i spun/hit and the impact material A. prevented major structural damage to the car and B. let me walk away.

attached is a pic of me in the pits after taking crap from all my racing buddies.

puder 10-06-2003 12:47 AM

i probably hit the impact absorption foam at around 50. and damn does that **** work! Its screwwed up but considering that i basically sideswiped a wall going 50 its dawn near showroom....

once again watkins crew ( i know you aren't members here but still) thanks I owe you guys one!!!!

SS930 10-06-2003 06:44 AM

Hey Puder, can you spell EXPENSIVE??? Sorry, couldn't resist!

Nice clean crash. I've been doing the Glen for years with PCA. I've seen some pretty good crashes out there. I lost it once coming out of the heel of the boot. Got lucky and just missed doing major damage. Sure makes you rethink things after visiting the wall, doesn't it? Oh well, wanna play... gotta pay!

BTW, your car is a very easy fix. Your lucky it hit so flush on the side. Once you starting hitting things at an angle **** gets damaged quickly.

ChrisK 10-06-2003 06:50 AM

So, was that your daily driver? THAT would REALLY suck.

martiniboat 10-06-2003 06:59 AM

Puder, is Watkin's Glen a road racing course? Are you part of a 'league' or just out on occassion for a little impromptu racing? Sounds cool as hell.

He Puder, a little bit of the old cheese, some spray cans and she'll look as good as new ;) Well, now you're one of those that "HAS" as opposed to one of those that "WILL". It can be fixed,be thankful that you are not mashed.

Cord 10-06-2003 08:46 AM

So do they charge you for the damage?

ROFL!!!! my thoughts exactly.

cash,

yeah i ****ed up. My fault 100% I got fully sideways and almost caught it but way overcorrected and snapped it 180* the other direction.

I reacet dliek it was formula car an kept on the gas WAY longer than i should have. If i lifted and only kept on like 5% throttle i prolly woudl have done a nice lazy spin and kept running. Oh well **** happen you live and learn.

If it were a honda, I would have to ask what puder was thinking "racing" a grandma car.

In all honesty, I like some of the BMW's....Have been trying to decide between a 318is/98-02 V6 Firebird (454 swap)/or a sport bike/or a Fox body Mustang for a few months now.

puder 10-06-2003 08:45 PM

i have a sport bike anda few years on you. you'll hurt yourself.

i've dumped mine. Its not fun. I got away with road rash and bumps and bruises. I was DAMN lucky. a friend of my brotehrs recently was paalyzed on his and out very own fever mike lost his leg in a bike wreck. Waita few years tillyou get older and wiser.

Remeber where this is coming from i spun a car yesterday at about 60 mph and was easily running over 120 in several spots on the track. And i'm telling yoru bieks aren't safe. You wanna get some kicks haulin ass, geta POS car (an older GTI will still run well) and hit the track a few times. At least there they have medical staff on site on the ready.

as for eth 318 skip that one in those years. get an older e36 3 series with a bigger engine 325 or 328. I've had good luck with bimmers (had 3). I find the dealers/service to be way nicer and contrary to popular belief service isn't any more expensive, Plus having wrecked 2 BMWs (this one and an older 750iL i had) they are tough cars.

boot 10-06-2003 09:41 PM

Wow , That sucks ! Glad your OK !

THEJOKER 10-06-2003 11:28 PM

Puder:

Damn son tear up that B'mer. Hey I have a customer that has zillions of BMW parts. He ships them Nationwide. Let me know if I can help . BH

Need-the-Speed 10-07-2003 12:10 AM

Hey Puder, can you believe there are fellow OSO'ers that live just 10 miles from WGI. You may have eaten in my rest. and not even known it. Next time let us know when your coming to Watkins Glen. We can drag you to the lake and go for a blast...

If no one sees him park it beside a railing on a back road before he calls the cops for an accident report they might not say much. Unless the adjuster is a member here.

Puder don't forget to rub the number out of the window.

32storm 10-07-2003 06:54 PM

Don't feel bad. I was at the Glen a few years ago for a Ferrari event. Guy put his Testarossa into the wall......ouch.

Glad your OK. You can always fix the sheet metal.

1st rule of all track events: Avoid solid objects!

HyperBaja 10-07-2003 07:08 PM

Is that covered under insurance if you are racing? What about street racing?

wwwTOPDJcom 10-07-2003 07:17 PM

nope

puder 10-07-2003 09:25 PM

actually it technically is covered. I was running with the PDA which is technically a school event not a racing event. SO you are covered but you pretty much onmly gget covered once. SP i'm saving mien for a really really nasty wreck. Say if in thets pini took it hit eth wall at an angle to hit toally pertepndicular to eth foam icoudl have aimedit better. the fornt and teh back hit at exactly the same time andteh impact was spraed along the length fo eth car. If i went in head first or at and angle it woudl have been REALLY ugly. PRolly woudl have totallyed the car. as it looks not there it no damage to eth cahiass is just body panels.

topDJ. no call today boss??? what up e-mail your pheen umebr f its easier for em to call you.
