Default drive paint idea ....

painted my drives last year but all paints removed in a week.this year planning to paint then with electro-static style.i think you call it powdercoating.

but the they do this paint at 180degrees celcius.i am wondering if i can just send the drives as they are to that much heat or i should removed everything on them and send only the covers?

-by chance we rebuild them correctly and i dont have any proplem with them.i am afraid about if i cant reinstall them as it should.

any idea pls
thnx

My friend at his powder coat place said to strip the guts clean out of it. Ruin all the seals and quite possible ruin some bearings as well.

i am a professional painter and this is the best formula to use in painting a drive:

1-remove and completly gut the housings

2- degrease with simple green or equivalent and wash with soap and water after and dry with towel

3-tape up spanner nut threads with duct tape and have the unit sandblasted and the key to good adhesion is not to touch drive with bare hands- use latex or a cotton type of glove to handle after it is blasted

4- use PPG 2 part epoxy primer 2 good coats and let dry- this has excellent adhesion to bare blasted aluminum

5- sand with 320 grit and re-apply another coat of epoxy

6- sand with 400 grit for final sand operation

7- use PPG CONCEPT single stage (it's a urethane) for final finish. this is a 3 part paint which when cured will last you a good amount of time depending on useage or sand bar crossings. need any help with product #'s call me central time 504 885 1680 x260 ask for eric
