Default Loud booms

Last night around 1:30 I heard a loud boom that woke my whole family up. Did anyone else hear this in NC?

You know, I heard a series about 1:00 in D.C. maybe 2-3 and then some serious jet engine noise. But we get the jet noise all the time because of the combat air patrols they fly here so I figured someone was on a fast intercept and went transonic. It could be someone scrambled out down there also.

I Live about 10 miles south on the Potomac River from Quantico and sometimes at night they do some training and it is loud and shakes my house. How far away are you from an army base? Plus with the air getting thinner up north sound travels farther.

Sounds like a jet goin supersonic. If they are close enough when they hit it, it can knock the picturs off your wall. Probably had some idiot pilot heading towards the us coast who did not answer the radio controllers when called.

Just got back from church and I asked several people if they hear it and only a few said yes. I thought they were not supposed to go supersonic over the states. I am about 100 miles from Fort Bragg and 125 from Seymore AFB, but it has been 20 years since I have heard blasts like that.

If they thought it was IMPORTANT enough they would do LIGHT SPEED if they could. No matter what the peace time rules are.

They can fly supersonic over Lake Michigan, sometimes the boom will drift on shore. I remember one once when I was really young. It was strong enough to shake the doors open in the house. Knocked a couple of plates off the wall too.
