OT - Camaro Project
1 Attachment(s)
Hey guys. Since I don't have any updates on the Apache, here is another project that I have been working on for a long time now. It is a 1967 Camaro RS. I bought the car 7 years ago, ran it for a year or two and then tore it down to restore it. The first 3 years after tearing it down were spent buying and collecting the needed parts. Then, the last 2 years have been spent actually doing the restoration. Now, 5 years since tearing it apart, the car is finally nearing completion. For some reason, I think that this project may have gone a lot faster if the boats didn't suck up all of the money and time! :D Here are some pictures of the project.

How many shifters do you suppose the car had over the years. That is a huge hole! The wiring made a great rat's nest!

The car was stripped to see what we had to work with.

I went out of town for just short of a month right before the actual restoration work began. When I got back, the body shop miraculously had the body work completed and the first coat of paint on! I thought, NO WAY. Upon closer inspection, the first shop did some shoddy patch work on the body panels and then covered it in body filler and paint. I guess they were hoping that I wouldn't notice. I also think that they were going to sell the body panels that I bought for this project. BUSTED!
Needless to say, I yanked the car out of there right away and moved it to a friend's shop. From there the restoration started over again. The body work was done correctly and we were off and running in the right direction. This picture was taken at the second shop after removing one of the rear quarter panels. |

Here is the new GM cowl induction hood. This hood was not original to the car, but I liked it. Besides, it was offered in following years. The color is not original either, but I liked it. Like the hood, this color was available in the following years.
Since this car had been butchered over the years and the numbers no longer match, I am not too worried about being original. I am just doing the car to taste. I only made two other non-original changes. We installed a power rack and pinion (removing the factory steering box) and we converted the car to 4 wheel disc brakes. |

Here is the original 327. We rebuilt it and cleaned it up to make it look nice. We added the aluminum pulleys for looks and to change to serpentine belts.

Will...that's an awesome car!

very nice job...
I too have had to pull stuff out of shops in the last year, no fkn integrity anymore. Whenever I get that gut feeling, I show up. |
Looks great so far. Should be sweet when you're done.

Absolutely beautiful!!!!!
Nice work!!!!! You can tell how straight the body is, just look at post #11 and see how straight the light reflection is. Not a ripple or wave in sight. May she drive as good as she looks. :D :D :D :D |
Thanks guys. I can't tell you how excited I am to get this thing finished. That first drive is gonna be great! We have to complete all of the odds and ends including all of the trim pieces, grill, lights, glass and interior. We have 99% of the parts on hand to complete the car so it is just a matter of time now. We are finally on the home stretch! I'll post more pics as we get things completed.

Lookin good!

Nice Job Hot Duck, It looks like you really took the time. Cars are so much fun to do. I'm 95% done restoring a 454SS truck, from the frame up.
|
Baja 27 - I pretty much like anything that has power and will go fast. Your 454SS certainly fits that bill. I would love to see some pictures of your project. Please post them if you have any!
