Someone tell me if I'm heading in the wrong path?

The Harvie Family is consolidating from years of working out of town and as some of you know I have been looking around (slowly as I usually do) for a Tiger.

The other day I was wasting my time on OSO as usuall and came across a tread from a fellow Northeasterner looking for a fast rig for his BIG family (4 instead of 3 compared to me) someone mentioned a Sunseeker SuperHawk 48 (puder's hard-on inducing rig from what I have learned searching around).

ScalpTaker36 11-29-2003 05:24 PM

Nice boat.

Make sure you drive one first.

Big difference from a Tiger

GLH 11-29-2003 05:30 PM

So I start digging around. those rigs have a few attractive items for the use our family does with a boat. Before I go on my bench mark is a Cigarette Tiger most likely 42' 2000 realistically attainable around $170K with stock power 500 HP, 70 MPH. This fulfills what we need here on Lake Champlain, spending 3 day weekends on the lake and getting to places before we die (ie: running at least 45-50 MPH unlike big azz cruisers).

After digging around seriously and unfortunately mentioning this to my wife I figure I can get a 48 Sunseeker for roughly the same price as a Tiger.

Her vote is clear; Sunseeker.
My vote; Cigarette
However the Sunseeker gives us a place to live in FL in the winter when we go, that the Cigarette cannot give us for the same money.

Running 3 engines instead of 2 is also going to be prohibitively more expensive. However gas for us thru some non-mentionable situation is a non-issue.

So inherently those beasts run 62-65MPH (a little slower than my Cafe) but jeez it's a freakin house and almost as versatile as a Cig...

I need input!!!!!!

Hey glh, when i was over at aqua toy store, i was able to go out on a sunseeker. it had tripple 575's and ran 82mph. This i did a double take on and checked the gps with it along with my hand held one. They are very nice like you say, but with the right power they will run. As for the tripples, i burn a little more now (650's) than what i did with twin 502 efis. To run the speed that the twin was running i am lower in the r's and out of the 4's on the carbs. Plus you break one, you can still get home at a decent hour with th other 2 running. When i was in texoma for the pkr run, blew an outdrive way out from where we docked, killed it and planed out and ran 40 on the other 2

GLH Nice boat, but how are you planning to get it back and forth to Fl ?

A week off in the spring and fall. I have done it a lot in the begining of the 90's. My wife is a Coast Guard rated Capitain chick and she can take the freakin thing down there and back!

SS930 11-29-2003 05:51 PM

That's a good point. It would cost a fortune to move that thing around. Looks nice though. Bet it throws one big a$$ wake!

SS930 11-29-2003 05:51 PM

Your wife!

Wow:eek:

If you're going to go the express cruiser route, there's more to look at......maybe a Black Thunder would be a reasonable compromise???

Here you go again Old Man clouding the issue with facts!!!! :D:D:D:D

gee GLH this turned out to be a good Post whore thread I think you got 16 posts out of it so far,

I think CAT will out do you by using his political views
on the Bush thread :D

still that is a sweet boat

105mph_38_2003 11-29-2003 06:33 PM

One day at Sams club by me there was a 42' Tiger in the parking lot. A few people were checking it out and some guy told his son"this boat probably cost $100,000";) I thought boats were way expensive too till I went to the dealership and took one home...

GLH, I like Too Olds suggestion of a Black Thunder, but the Sunseeker in comfortable and just as impressive.

Cigs are always a no brainer:p

Anybody else I'd say your right but from a Red Wings Fan!

pullmytrigger 11-29-2003 08:58 PM

Hey just think....If you go buy the Sunseeker, instead of talking to all the Cig and Formula and Fountain guys at the Marina you can look forward to talking to all the blue hairs in their Sea Rays.............I cant believe you'd actually consider one of those things..........brutal :( :(

pullmytrigger 11-29-2003 09:09 PM

If you need ALL that space go check out some used 42 Outerlimits or some big assed Sonics or Black Thunders....I had a personal tour of the 42 Tripple 575 Sc Sonic "Pay 2 Play" what a beautiful boat, if you cant overnight in that thing you need a cottage.......and it LOOKS like a performance boat.......not a Sea Ray.....Puders Faaked.........doug

Your right Dave but man 48' at 62 MPH for 170K....... Ouch

Also I can sit on the throne reading the papers on Saturday and Sunday mornings.... in the rig. I just don't know...

stecz20 11-30-2003 02:57 AM

i understand where you are coming from. all im going to say is this, your at the point where most guys would cut a nut off for either one of these rigs. if you were talking bout a 50 ft ocean, thats a no brainer. ****ting and putting around reading the paper, the first tiger you see pass while your reading your paper while taking a dump, your going to hate yourself. why not a top gun with some power, if you dont want to spend the big dough...

mama tryed 11-30-2003 07:37 AM

GLH,, Going with the Sun Seeker,, means you'll be arriving at your Destination, only a FEW Minutes behind everybody Else!! That means they will already have your Food and Drinks Ordered,, and probably paid For!! you would be saving Money!!!:D :D :D

formula31 11-30-2003 07:51 AM

Sunseeker for sure, the BT's arent even in the same league. Wish I could afford one.

cuda 11-30-2003 08:13 AM

You just have to ask yourself one question: Am I a cruiser or a performance guy.
