One little screw up over a printer and your putting down DELL ?? If it took two years for you to check up on whether or not you were credited for the printer you returned, thats your fault..
|
No probs here on my 4th Dell laptop.
However I have never bought any peripherals thru them, so I don't know about that. |

Originally posted by Troutly I have had less then stellar service from Dell. And, my current Inspiron 2650 notebook is a piece of crap. |
I have never had good luck with dell quality either. My custom built pc built in 00 is better than my dads new dell laptop.
|
we use all dell PC's, laptops, servers at work, some have probs of course, but overall I'm very pleased. Support has always been great when I needed it too. Sorry to hear about your troubles with them, hope you get that cleared up.
|
Hey, no offense meant, but just because you never accepted delivery didn't mean you weren't charged for it. you should have made sure you were credited for the FULL amount, thats all..
|
Dells all the way here!
|
you mean you never got a statement that says pay me
did you use Dell credit or your own card? |
Great I was just about to order a Dell now what do I do ?
|
DELL CREDIT......NO I DIDNT GET A STAEMENT UNTIL RECENTLY, THEN I FIGURED IT WAS A FLUKE...BY THE TIME I CALLED THEY ALREADY ATTACHED IT TO MY CREDIT AND THATS WHERE I AM AT
|

|
What the Dell?
Sorry to hear of your misfortunes SLINGSHOT. :(
We buy Dell exclusively in our office. Laptops, workstations, servers, printers. I'm satisfied with the quality of the machines and the level of service we receive. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. :) |
DELL!
Originally posted by Troutly I have had less then stellar service from Dell. And, my current Inspiron 2650 notebook is a piece of crap. You should have gotten the 4150 or the 5100. I have had the best support from Dell. My old Inspirion 4000 got ran over, and they totally replaced it for free, but I had the best warranty of course. We currently have 4 Dell desktops and 1 laptop and they are the best. Wouldn't go to another company. LS |
I could not speak more highly of Dell. I smoked a couple of harddrives during the warranty period. 1 year in home parts and labor warranty. They were always their within 24 hours of the phone call. The last time it happened, I called at 4pm and they were there the next day at 8am with a new harddrive. I was concerned as my warranty was about to run out in a couple weeks. I called and asked what they would do for me as this happened more than the average consumer would be happy with. I was hoping for 1/2 price on an extended warranty. They called me back the next day and offered me 2 more years of in home parts and labor service for FREE.
Haven't had a problem since and the warranty ran out a year ago. Hope you get your mess straightened out. |
DELL is strongly antigun, donating $$$ to such causes and refusing to sell product to customers that they feel are not politically correct enough to suit them, and as such we will NEVER own any Dell products, period.
|
Welcome PorscheSpeed. Wow that got you to sign up.
Anti Gun... not around here. Troutly, all that porn on your hard drive is the problem. |
Dell -anti-gun
If Dell is anti guns, no more Dells for me!
I have owned 2 Dells & have had greats service, however if they are anti gun I will not support Dell:hothead: |
Being in this industry for the last 20 years, I just wanted to add some information to this thread that may make you think twice about the next computer purchase. There are (3) top players in the PC game today. Dell, Gateway, and Compaq. Let's take a look at the background. Gateway and Dell started out by building computers in their back yard in the hay day when you could actually make a buck on selling hardware. They made a killing during the 80's and 90's when everyone had to have a PC. But that's all they did - build computers. In the 2000 era, the bottom fell out of the margin on hardware - so these two had to cut costs in other areas. Compaq, on the other hand was built from the merger of the second largest computer company in the world at one time with the best support network on earth (Digital Equipment), and then aquired the best printer company in the world (HP). They are a huge player in the industry that understands customer service and the delivery of a superior product, while still offering an affordable product. A Compaq will cost you a little more, but I think we all know the old saying "You get what you pay for". If you want to save a hunderd bucks or so, buy the Dell, or even the Gateway. If you want the best hardware, and the best support in the business based on years of doing it, buy a Compaq. Sorry for the wind, but I could not use less words to make the point.

I have two Dell's here at work (am typing this on a Latitude laptop) and two HP's at home (mine and my daughters). I've had no problems with any of them. My Sony Viao laptop on the other hand died in just under 2 years, first the CD writer (and it was a weird one that we never could find a replacement for), then the modem. After that we threw it out. My wife's work laptop is also a Sony, and has been back to them for new drives etc more times than I can count.

Not to hijack this thread, but here is a list of some other anti gun companies, actors, and big mouths" http://secondamendmentstuff.com/antigun_org.htm

...and I'm not seeing Dell on the list PorsheSpeed

Done With Dell
No more Dells for me, any problem is a nightmare, get all my stuff built locally, my laptop is Sony, so far so good.
|
I have had very good luck with my laptop from here.
http://www.internetishop.com/ I never had 1 single problem and it is the best performing laptop I have ever used. Just my 2 cents worth Roby |
That paticular list is not real up to date, but was the one I had floating around.
Google them up and you wll find references to their policy. |
I have worked for Dell for 8 years and I have never heard one single "anti gun" message internally or externally.
There are signs on the doors in Round Rock prohibiting anyone entering the buildings with weapons but I would hardly consider that ant gun. Also, with all due respect, on the long winded Compaq post, Dell has been kicking Compaq, now HPQ's ass for the last few years. Dell didn't get to the number one spot by building crap. Compaq squandered their Digital acquisition and the merger with HP has been less than stellar. If you are in the market for a computer, do yourself a favor and look at independant comparisons that take everything from quality to support into account. Dell has lead the pack in customer satisfaction for the last 3 or 4 years. The anti gun comment is puzzling at best. http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/m.../article.jhtml |

Hey man, I feel for you. That sounds like a nasty situation. I purchased a big screen TV from an online retailer, then changed my mind a few days later when they told me it was backordered. I had to stay on them for then next few months to get it credited.
After it gets investigated, all should turn out fine. In the mean time, I know how bad it sucks. I really do. Unfortunately, this is something that can happen with any vendor and fortunately it doesn't happen often. I wasn't trying to diminish the crap you are going through. I hope it works out for you. |

Don,t worry about sling, @ the rate he is going he will own Dell in a couple of years |
Just My opinion, But I think one computer is just a good as the other wether its Dell, HP, Compaq etc. I'm sure the majority of the manufacturers probably have the same internal component suppliers anway. In a nutshell, I think it all comes down to good tech support in my book.
:) |
As the Director of IT for my organization I have tried all manufacturers of computer equipment and although no piece of equipment is perfect Dell has met our demands consistently. HP/Compaq is more expensive with longer lead times, slower to market and their support was weaker. IBM had awesome support, like Dell's, but was much more expensive and also suffers from slow tech to market and availability problems/ late shipments. It is no fluke that Dell has been rated the best in customer service 12 out of the last 13 years. Every year or two I retest the market for our PC/Laptop and Server purchases and except for a brief period I was unhappy with Dell's laptop offerings we have remained a Dell customer for almost a decade. Sling your situation is unfortunate but I am sure it will be resolved in time. Let all 3 credit bureaus know of the issue and send a certified letter to Dell demanding proof of delivery for the printer. If that doesn't work, give me a PM and I will see if I can get you in touch with someone in the Dell corp to help straighten this out.

Dell's "Award Winning" Costumer Service is a HUGE JOKE! I really didn't appreciate talking to someone in India and not being able to understand them. I bought the best warranty and paid for the guarantee. They were supposed to call me back on Thursday. Two thursdays have come and gone. I think I'll go outside right now and let it accidentally slip out of my hands. Dell can take their "Award Winning" Costumer Service and stick it.
|
The computer is only a month old.
|
I called dell on a warranty issue. For one it took an hour to get the guy on the phone. Then I could barely understand the guy. He finally figured out the problem THEN started arguing with me that my warranty was out. It was in august when i called and my warranty was over sept 5th. I argued for the guy for a good 15 minutes, he finally got his supervisor and figured out that he was reading the warranty exp. date how they read it wherever they are at and thought it expired on may 9th. I told the guy that if he wanted to work with the US he needed to figure out how we do things.:hothead:
Other than their crap service I am pleased with the product. No major issues, and always been a good value. I am here in Austin, 5 minutes from dell, and there are plenty of dell people out there. I hired one and he still has passwords for advanced support and takes care of all the problems now. |
Hell with Dell :(
laptop was worse then the Compaq I have now :( Was over at a friends house last week I gave tehm my old Packard Bell back in 1999. I bought that PB in sep of 96 and it is STILL RUNNING. The list of things wrong, mouse first, keyboard second due to a childs miss grip on his cup of koolaid, the monitor smoked thier house up, and nowthe cd rom went last week. Not bad for a Packard Bell. It may slow, but reliable. |
Great and I have to call them about my 3 week old ( new) monitor problems
|
an update ....just this week I made my controller sit on the phone and resolve this 3.5 hrs she was on the phone, talked to 8 different people, at the ende they tried leaving 56.00 on it as depreciation for equipment I never recieved..didnt make sense.
this was afer I sent overnite to MICHAEL DELL, copies of all my emails with customer service, a letter explaining my problem, and an invoice for painting his HQ @ 1 Round rock way in TX for $980k....and if he didnt pay it I will sue him and ruin his credit |
