A little food for thought...........

Is EVERY boat mentioned here a great boat? Yes. Is one better at doing something in a different senario(sp) than the others, yes. Whether it be speed, rough water, turning ability, creature comforts, stereo, ride quality (open to each individuals own interpretation), etc. The question I always ask is, "How often are you going to run the boat at full throttle?", or "How often are you going to willingly go out in 8 to 10 foot seas for fun?" I personally like to cruise between 60 and 70 in 3 to 4's and have fun. That's where my 41 likes to cruise and believe me, it is fun at that speed and you're not beating on the equipment. Yes I could step it up to 80 or 90 and things would approach the orgasmic mark, but that gets REAL hard on the equipment; drives, trannies, engines, etc. And lets face it, every time you leave the water, when you land, you are stressing the sh!t out of the boat and the hardware.

If you're right there in N.Miami, you could take the ditch and run through the bay if the water was too rough.

If you are looking for speed, a 42 Foutain w/ staggered 525's would be my recomendation. It's alot of boat and still runs 85 mph.

If you are looking for a classic offshore boat, I would look for a Cigarette 38 TOP GUN with 3a drives so you could put 800's in it. It is a well balanced boat when it flies and that is enough power to get you to the 90 mph mark. And is a fun ride!

On the APACHE, a pleasure boat with a cabin and 3a drives with 800's is going to run in the low to mid 80's through anything. Sometimes these boats can get a little boring 'cause they are so heavy and ride so smooth. A 6 or 3 pack boat with no cabin is a totally different story, alot more fun ride 'cause they like to come out of the water more, but still take big power to make them go. My 41 weighs around 11,000# with no fuel, and holds 320 gals. of fuel. Now compare that to Lucy's Special, which is a light lay-up and you'll again have a different ride. If you are looking for an APACHE, it is good to find out the history.

I hope this helps
Robert

Our 38 Top Gun W/ 575's with a full tank of fuel weighs 13,200 lbs and will run 90 mph with 3 onboard. We weighed it in Savannah 2002 - BH

Joker,

How much does a Top Gun weigh with twin 500's? How many gallons is your tank. I am asking because I have a 14,000lbs lift. Is this too small for a Top Gun?

Back4More 12-14-2003 08:18 PM

FUEL CAPACITY 260 Gal....1,800 lbs.
WEIGHT 9,300 lbs.

Tonto 12-15-2003 05:04 AM

I have a 20,000+ lb. Hydro Hoist lift for sale if you need a bigger lift for your new boat.

Listed weight on our 2001 T/S is 8800# dry, and fuel capacity is 220 gallons. This is with an extended Cover Girl cabin, and porta potti.

I have an old Flat Deck Cigarette 38 and it weighs more then a Top gun and My 12,000lb hydrohoist works just fine.
