Each year we have a catered luncheon. They also hand out all the perfect attendance and service awards.
Perfect attendance will get you a top payout of $200 and the service award gets you a nice watch. This year they also held a raffle for two round trip airfare tickets to anywhere in the continental US. Annual raise? We usually get our reviews in November (we did) and a raise in December just before Christmas (no word). Our raise is usually no more than 6% with 4% being normal. Last year several people didn't get anything. We do get a form of profit sharing at the end of the fiscal year which equates to one weeks pay. We do get all the usual holidays, vacation days (4 weeks for me) and a paid week off between Christmas and New Years. |
I got 160% of a 40 hr check. Which was down, last year I got 220%. But it's not like we had the best year. Plus reading how many people don't get anything kinda makes me feel like I should be happy with what I got even if it was less.

I worked for a company back in the 70's that alway game me a Christmas bonus. It was very much appreciated and one of the nicest things I believe you can do.
When I started my own business in 1993, I also decided to do a Christmas bonus every year. Employees come to expect it, and many to even depend on it rather than appreciate it. But it is something I want to do. EVERYONE of my eleven employees received from $250.00 up to $3000.00 this year. Two have only been with me a couple of months and did not even know we did this. They are the most surprised and thankful for it. I would rather give it to the people that helped make it, than send it to Washington to be given to those sitting on their butts all year! God Bless & Merry Christmas to all. |
I consider myself lucky. I work for a small woman-owned business (about 130 people). My group provides satellite communications to our military. The past two years have been busy for us. Normally, our company does not give bonuses. My group got one last year for working long hours, weekends and some holidays. This year, again, we fought another war (whether this is good or bad is irrelevant), so we were rewarded...very handsomely, I might add. I don't expect this but it is appreciated.
We also get several days off around the Holidays, depending on how long you have been with the company (almost three years for me). In addition, I love what I do and the people I work with...what more can you ask for??!! Cheers and Happy Holidays. Patti |
I work for a very generous German bank...we don't get Christmas bonuses, but a nice contibution to our 401K at year end and a VERY nice year end bonus to boot :)
|
I dont get one,but I give them to my employees
every year. I have to say though, that I dont think they appreciate it. They expect it! One year we had a tough year and the bonuses were a little smaller, (only by 100.00). Holy Chit, you wanna here the grumbling. Then they run around comparing each others bonuses to their own. More grumbling. Even the guys who missed 20 days this year for some B.S. Then I here how alot of places dont even give them, or the give out a turkey or a box of candy. |
I too take my employees out for a nice dinner and drinks and also some gifts that usually range between 300-500. I think that is much better than money. My employees have a blast every Christmas, we just had ours and we all ended up at the Casino in downtown Milwaukee after our meal and had a blast.
Bonuses are only paid at the companies year end and that depends on the year we had. :) I have a small profit sharing plan (SEP) that is so easy to maintain. Any new employee must be with me for a full three years before company contributes profit sharing money. |
Christmas bonus?????? Ah no..........my bonus is that I get to work on Christmas eve, Christmas....and New Years eve.......that and the thirty percent paycut I took.......nope, no bonus here........but I try and look on the bright side....I still have a job....and am in good health.......so its all good.........Rich

Thats the way its been going around here for the last two years. Every year we have increased over the previous even when profits are down. This year even with sales even we are down close to 40% profits because of medical insurance increases. People expect it. Out of 100 bonuses that go out you would be lucky to get 20 "Thank You's". |
you wanna talk brutal......they had a one guys birthday (which was yesterday) one guys retirement (after working here 43yrs) and the christmas party/aka bonus rolled into one........and what was it? ..........One cake and two packs of soda (coke and orange Fanta) out in the factory during our 10min break this morning!!! :(
BUT THEY CAN AFFORD SENDING THE COMPANY SOFTBALL TEAM (which no company employees are part of!! and one of the bosses kids runs ) TO HAWAII FOR SOME BIG BALL GAME!! |
Wow Wally is Karl away or not reading the board today!!!!
|
Karl has nothing to do with it.......if it were his way things around here would run ALOT more smoothly. Its the Dad and uncle that run the show right now and they are set in the ways of the old! :(
|
We certainly give them - I feel it is important to reward people for their time they put into a project, so everyone gets a different amount, ranging from a few hundred to $5,000. Also depends on how the company is doing financially, but my brother once borrowed money to make sure his guys had something.

I usually get large quarterly bonuses and a small xmas bonus of about $200. This past year I got zero quarterly bonuses and a bonus that equals a weeks pay at xmas. I am very pleased as it has paid for all of my xmas shopping. But I do agree with all, it has not been the best of years.

14 yrs and no X-mas bonus ...only one bonus all year at 1 weeks pay....tell ya what , ahh nevermind.
although my wife gave everyone that works for her at the video store a bonus , small but something none the less....and I get them out of jail whenever the need arises. |
I got a rock............:(
|
we give them along with quarterly bonuses.
|
I GAVE ALL MY GUYS BONUSES...SOME *****, SOME WERE THANKFUL, AND SOME WERE PISSED. EVEN THOUGH OUR SALES HAVE INCREASED 30 TO 50 % EACH YEAR SINCE 1999, WE ARE EXPANDING HEAVILY, BUT I STILL FEEL THE NEED TO GIVE IT TO THEM BECAUSE WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT IF YOU DONT HAVE EMPLOYEES YOU DONT HAVE A BUSINESS.

I work for a Tier 1 (japanese owned) automotive component manufacturer... we provide for nearly every major auto manufacturer with honda and toyota being our largest customers... we have roughly 250 employees at our facility and each year the President, HR Sr. Manager and General Manager personally walk around, shakes everyones hand and hand out 300 dollar "christmas gift" checks to each and every individual. Actually the President tours the plant each afternoon and says hello and shakes nearly every hourly employees hand. Even in years of zero or negative profit this Christmas gift gesture is the norm.
We also have 2 catered christmas parties. one for adults and one for employees children and grandchildren. Generally the adult christmas party is at a decent facility also. The company also caters internally, during work, on the friday before thanksgiving, a nice dinner. The plant also shuts down from nov 24 til the day after new years day. all hourly employees are paid a normal wage of 8 hr/day for each day off... we salary folks get paid regardless but most of us end up doing things to machinery, etc while the plant is shut down... we do not have any formal profit sharing unless you are of management level and above... instead, if we make too much profit we buy all new office furniture and computers to avoid the taxation... One of our parent company's manufacturing facilities across the road from us does perform profit sharing comparable to the big 3... and they are the largest employer in the area with well over 1500 employees. most at my company may grumble about the underaverage wage, small yearly raises and some abuse of salaried employees for excessive work hours or load for the positions we have but all in all it is a good company to work for... we have an OK 401K and benefits package and other benefits... our business keeps exploding (25 mil increase in sales forcasted in the next 2 years), i'm so busy i need to clone myself to launch all of these new programs.. my company has NEVER laid off an employee in it's 15 year existance. in times like the last two years i'm thankful for all of this... especially after seeing what has happened to MANY of my engineering friends in other industries, etc. Now for my own fledgling business... my 2nd life if you will... well i guess my little donzi and it's yearly improvements are my bonus :D |
i gave 7000 worth of bonus's plus x-mas party, 10 employees. two thank yous from them.
|
Self Employed with no employee's. No bonus now, obviously, but seldom ever saw them with previous bosses. Think that is pretty good to hear that several employers on this board think well enough of their employees to give bonus's.
Rock on and Merry Christmas Everyone |
no bonus but do give them out, own a small electrical cont. business 25 emp. we start the season on the day before thanksgiving with a half day paid for 8 and i take all out lunch and we take the friday off after t-day paid its a great insentive to keep employees's, then we do a Xmas dinner with a half day Xmas eve paid for 8 and all receive a Xmas bonus from 300 - 2500. all based on length of time employed and performance over the year. we gave out 45,500 this year (but that does not include mine lol) in bonus's but in nj its hard to find good help and it has worked in my favor when workers brag to friend's they seem to call looking for job's at the end of jan its pretty funny. we do the same for new years lunch and 1/2 day pd for 8. i some times during the year give rewards , credit card and let them grab dinner if there production is up and random bonus's when we do good on a job. i repeat nj is hard to get good help it is big union area and i have to compete to there packages this seems to work most of my men do better then union packages.

My Christmas Bonus was not a damn thing! Merry F'in Christmas. I won't be renewing my contract there. However I'm happy to hear that some of you got a bonus. :)
|
THe bonus came...$20.00 gift card to supermarket. Honestly I don't need it that bad, would have rather seen them make a donation to a fund for the kids or something.
|
My christmas bonus was getting everyones gifts for about $1500:D:D
|
One of our customers got a $38,000.00 bounus this year. Yes you read that right thirty eight thousand dollars. He runs the shop at Burtek Industiries ( I heard that they do military contracts) up here in Michigan
