Cap,

There are all kinds of volunteer jobs that need to be done around the fire house. You do not have to be interior or medical to be a member and make a huge contribution. If you have ANY inclination at all, check it out. It can be very rewarding helping others.

True heroes-
Thank you Phantom. We are NOT hero's. Heroes are those who are not fire fighters or police officers or military personnel that happen upon tragic circumstances and risk their lives or well being to help others. We are trained people who do a job serving the community (either volunteer or career). But your thoughts are certainly appreciated.

This thread was not to seek out attention or praise for firefighters but to give thanks for all we have and what we do. It was also to show us that there are many people out there that are far less fortunate and are victims of terrible people. It happening on a holiday is even more tragic.

Shane it sure makes you appreciate the small stuff doesn't it? This is the first Christmas I haven't been on duty in a few years and it sure is nice.

Try and make the rest of the day a good one. Happy holidays.

Kudos to Shane and the rest of the Fire Dept. You have a job that certainly takes a special kind of person! I truly hope the rest of your day is NOT work related.

Wow, I cant imagine how hard it is to go home after a day like that and try to behave as if nothing happened, especially on Christmas. I think I would be a basket case for a while.

Shane all I can say is WOW. I hope that you got to relax with the family a little bit since you have been home. Thanks for your voluntary service.
