I drove the new hemi for a week when my psd was in the body shop. It sounds great and moves when you wind it up but it felt more like a sports car engine than a truck engine. Very soft low end..no good for towing.

The thing is that it's not only the mileage that will save you money on the diesel. Wait until you try to unload a used HD gas truck. You will get a higher resale on your used truck with a diesel than what the option cost you originally.

Oh, and I put 40k+ on my truck a year. The $100 oil changes do make me wince a bit.

After reading all these replies there has been one fact that hasn't been brought up about the Cummins package.

Of the three diesel/tranny combos being built by the big 3 right now, the CTD package is the only one that doesn't have a 5 spd auto with a tranny brake built in. I know there are going to be naysayers about this. But this is a fact that was highly noted in all the shootouts between these trucks. Trust me, it does make a difference when towing the loads we tow.

Someone else mentioned how much quieter the Duramax was than anything else currently being made. The new Cummins is actually the quietest Diesel of the three right now. Believe it or not.

Oh yeah, almost forgot.

I'd take ANY Diesel over gas towing the loads most of us tow. Until you've done it, you don't know the difference. Once you have, you probably won't go back.

If you are a cheap tight ass and don't give a crap about mileage and power buy the gas guzzler and overload it. I had the gas and it did fine but was tired of 80 downhill to do 45 uphill.

There will always be guys with S10 chevys on here pulling 15000 lb boats but do you want to be that nerd?

You need torque to pull a 10,000 lb boat not horse power.

The Diesel will maintain speed on hills the gas wont'.

The hemi will do the job but you will be running the pi@# out of it.

Better bet is a GMC 2500 HD with the 8.1 or even the 6.0 liter.

Agreed. IF one was to go gas the choice given wouldn't be on my list. The two above mentioned engines or the Ford V10 would get the nod far sooner than the Hemi.

I just got back from my first tow of any distance (120 mi) with my 250 PSD. I got 12.4 mpg and pulled steady, even up the skyway I could still accelerate.
