the sea's getting rougher ; and the cats are getting smaller ........ like i suggested EARLIER in this thread we all go boating in a force 9 !!!!!

trader1 01-16-2004 02:49 PM

Alright everyone no arguing! I think that a gladiator with six's will be a bit slower due to the amt of hp to turn the shaft. I guess though reading it is helping me decide what I really want. I like the arneson because I think it is a stronger product with less opposing moving parts. I like the style of the cat.
Bottom line is that I am going to have to spend time on each of them and really see what I like the most. Maybe a Gladiator with arnesons?????? Cigarette does say "Let you imagination be your limits".
Again NO FIGHTING!!!!!!!!!!

simon johnston 01-16-2004 02:54 PM

the linch mob cigs GOT to be the coolest looking boat around................. and thats from a cat owner !!!!

BLee 01-16-2004 02:56 PM

6's and Arnesons aren't available for the Gladiator. The hulls aren't setup for surface drives and the boat would struggle with 6's. It was meant to be an F-2 setup.

trader1 01-16-2004 02:58 PM

Or Should I say...
"WHATS THAT SIGN SAY?" No spitting.....
"NO WHATS THIS SING SAY?" NO FIGHTING......

I really hope everyone got that!:p :p :p :p :p :D :D :D

simon johnston 01-16-2004 03:00 PM

would the boat struggle with #6's ????? or do you mean a mid 500hp motor would stuggle [polite question ]

LEOPAJM 01-16-2004 03:01 PM

TOO MUCH WEIGHT !!!

Have you checked out the 36 Nor-tech cat ??????

trader1 01-16-2004 03:10 PM

The sixs would be too mush weight, and I think 500's are not enough power for the drive.

Leo the nortech is too much money.

Put to more seats in the current Lynch Mob canopied boat and have one hell of a Poker Run boat. The boat runs in the 90's the way it sits now.

Lynch Mob,

Very trick set up!

Are those water jacketed tail pipes that then plumb water away from the end of the pipe and overboard?

I have never seen "dry" pipes with a water jacket...

Man ... I don't know if I want to be thguy sittin in the back !?!??!?!!?!?!?:(

any room back there ???

DPT MOTORSPORTS 01-16-2004 05:04 PM

Believe it or not having worked as Crew Chief a few times with this boat. I have been everywhere in it. To answer you question, Yes there is more then enough room to bolt in two more seats and have the passengers very comfortable back there. One thing that you would need to look into is an airconditioning unit for the canopy because it gets hot in there. I was told there are a few companies that make systems for canopied boats.

trader1 01-20-2004 12:19 PM

Lynch Mob is a great boat but I do not want the canopy.

LEOPAJM 01-20-2004 12:20 PM

He trader .... lets see some pics of your Powerplay !?!?

I think you'll find the Gladiator and Nor-Tech competitively priced.

Hey guys, thanks for the compliments on my Gladiator. The Gladiators are great boats, as are the cats from Skater. The problem is that they are not really comparable. To me the first decision here needs to be between a cat and a vee hull. Then once that decision is made you can start comparing similar boats against each other.

If anybody is looking for a Gladiator, I'll make a sweet deal on mine. Throw some air conditioning in the boat along with a stereo and you'll have a bad a** poker run rig. Or, if you don't want the canopy, have it removed. Tres Martin is converting a canopied Gladiator right now. Click the link below to see pictures of the project.

simon johnston 01-20-2004 02:51 PM

taking the canopy off your boat would be like cutting the roof off a gull wing mercedes and making it into a covertible !!!! only 2 in existance ? even more reason to keep it on !!! that pic looking at the nose looking back ...AWSOME !!!!

trader1 01-20-2004 04:09 PM

Hey Will I agree with what you are saying. I am going to sell the Powerplay and sit out a year and see what I like the best. I just have to be that guy for a summer but I would rather do that instead of spending a ton of money and being disapointed with my decission. Whats the number on the sweet deal???? Maybe you could persuade me! I am the one who e mailed you a couple of weeks ago. The cousin of Hoen.

sangercat 01-20-2004 05:04 PM

the 32 skater is bad to the bone but with the long arneson drives they sit to low at idle and will take water over the exhaust and the are difficult to unload off of a trailer this pkg is great on a 36 or 40 but be sure to get in a 32 before you make a decision

Hot Duck 01-21-2004 01:05 AM

Trader1 : Give me a call and we'll talk. I'll be in and out all day tomorrow (Wednesday) at (410) 289-3936.

I agree that it would be a shame to remove the canopy, but it can be done. I personally would ad AC and run in comfort inside the canopy, but that's just me. :D

I think 70 is a fair price.

T2x 01-21-2004 04:17 PM

Hello!....... My name is T2x......... and I have read this entire thread. I really enjoyed seeing my name from time to time and regret being unable to attend this party at the beginning........

That having been said........... The two choices remind me of a comparison between a tomato and a suitcase.
I.E....... There is little to base the decision upon.

However....here goes nuttin':

1. The Gladiator....... great poseur boat.... chicks dig'em.... guys (at least those who are phallically challenged) also adore them.... and the product is a sound investment, although the "legendary" part will probably evaporate like 188th street. Good rough water hull....... (The Apache 41 is a GREAT rough water hull).
Performance is right up there with the rest of the 8' wide, vacuum bagged, stepped vees (yawn).

2. 32 Skater (new style) wonderful all around boat with sufficient freeboard and forward entry to challenge Key West's race course on a rough day (similar aspect ratios to a Shadow/Chris Cat, while providing at least 15 mph more top speed than the older designs). Too much speed for Bravos, hence,.... I suppose,...... the Arneson nonsense. Go for #6's....you won't regret it..and it will be a simple plug and play when you upgrade your power after the warrantees expire (and you will). The hull is stable to 145 at least.

Straight up comparison....... excluding the Arnesons which I consider a mistake...at best...and will REDUCE the resale while making the boat downright dangerous....at worst. The Skater will hold its value BETTER than the Cig., go faster, out handle, and out run it as well. The Cig may get more girls, if that's a priority But the Skater is no slouch in that department, either.

T2x............. Buy a Skater....Be born again!

trader1 01-21-2004 04:24 PM

T2x thanks for the input. talk to me more about why you dislike the arneson drive???

T2x 01-21-2004 04:50 PM

Very sturdy...and in some cases gives a speed advantage......due to lack of parasitic gear loss.... Howard Arneson is a respected visionary, etc, etc,

Problems:

....... no up trim...("rocker plates" are a bandaid gimmick).........and......the steering is compromised by the geometry of the gimbals, overall leverage, and etc....They are also a B*t*h to dock.

With a boat like the 32 Skater which has a a long constant section and a more abrupt and full forward entry(anti-stuff design), you don't want to run too much negative angle as it will force the bow down and create various handling problems..... (yeah, I know, you can fool with the above mentioned rocker approach...but that involves opening a whole 'nuther can of worms.) Bottom line is a good set up should not require devices that lower the bow needing counter-action by devices that raise the bow...... when a simple #6 drive will carry the whole kit and kaboodle without any added gizmos.

Go with # 6 drives...... you'll thank me.

T2X,
You must really hate Cigarette's!! (You bash them constantly with a vengeance) Those are some pretty harsh words. Cigarette must have done you wrong sometime(must have been their ****ty a$$ customer service) I think the Cig and Skater are both great boats, and I also think they cost way too much money and both lose alot of money from depreciation.

I think you're right about no comparison, you really can't compare "apples to apples" in this situation. I do, however think that they are both the best of what you can buy in their prospective markets.

The only cigarettes I "hate" are the kind you buy in a pack at the 7-11. I don't bash Cigarettes constantly...because I rarely even think about them..... They are a throwback to the time when men were men and stood up in boats that were fabulous...... in 1969.......

Today, the vacuum bagged, stepped hull, spray painted, graphically elaborate creations remind me of a 57 Chevy...with a computerised vortec engine in a showroom with rap music coming out of a state of the art sound system.... kind of a neat gimmick...but more nostalgic then up to date.

As far as any issues with the Cigarette company....how can I have any?...The company has changed hands like a whore at the Bronx terminal market since Aronow originally sold it...and bought it back...and sold it...and bought it back......ad nauseum.

Buy the Skater.....at least the company you buy it from will have the same ownership during your second season with the boat.

Toodles......................
