silent or loud

the boat im buying has stock silent choice.
motors are out being rebuilt and i have the choice of no silent choice or leaving it the way it is.
im thinking more whistles and bells just means more trouble down the road but then again ive never had silent choice so i might like it. is it something that adds value to the boat or something most guys dont want?
its probably just a personel preference thing but thought ide try and get some feedback from you guys.

Tricky919 01-02-2004 04:43 PM

You'll like the silent choice in the harbor......i'd keep it.......

Ron P 01-02-2004 04:45 PM

Silent choice won't satisfiy the cops if your in an area where they insist on mufflers.

MitchStellin 01-02-2004 04:53 PM

They do add value because they are expensive, I think they are nice sometimes and they are a lot easier on the ears, you can talk and the passengers are happy. The only down side is with the flaps closing at speed, I hear they can and some zip tie them open since you don't want them to close and severely restrict an engine. Like you said, it is one more thing to go wrong, but I would at least install them and tie them open if you don't use them. I had a boat that I wished had them, there are many long idle spots around here and the drone would be tiring after a hour of no wake.

Indy 01-02-2004 05:14 PM

Nice option for the no wake zones. After a day of running, my ears are a little ragged, it'd keep it if it's on the boat already.

thedonz 01-02-2004 05:23 PM

keep it, it is a value item and you can always tie them open

spitfire1 01-02-2004 05:25 PM

Keep em......they come in handy when pulling up to restaurants and such where the general public doesnt appreciate the sound of raw horsepower.......

Formula Outlaw 01-02-2004 05:29 PM

I like loud too, even at the restaruant.

BT

masi242 01-02-2004 07:04 PM

Yes, Keep the silent choice, you will be happy you did this. So won`t your passengers, just my .02.

cigarette1 01-02-2004 07:07 PM

Reversion is not your friend

;)

WARPAINT 01-02-2004 07:13 PM

Blue Thunder,Shhhh!! 4th of July was awesome at the Goose. After the grand finale of fireworks,4 of us with about 4400 hp total started revving em up:D They cheered louder for us than they did for the fireworks.

RollWithIt 01-02-2004 07:22 PM

There is nothing like the sound of an open loud exhaust. But there are times that having the option is nice. Keep them. You wont be dissapointed.

US1 Fountain 01-02-2004 07:38 PM

Keep 'em . Doesn't mean you have to use it.
Better to have it and not use it than to not have it and want it. If you remove it and want it at a latter date........motor has to come back out.

Smitty 01-02-2004 08:53 PM

I love my silent choice. No wake zones means quiet and on plane means LOUD. It is great to be able to choose.

Audiofn 01-02-2004 08:54 PM

It is always a good idea to have it so that you can draw less attention to yourself.

Jon

NJgr8ful 01-02-2004 09:03 PM

Definitely a good option

I agree if they're there keep them there .. but don't ever, never, whatsoever think about using them! :) Well OK when idling in at midnight, under a full moon, after a few of your fav libations it might be a wise idea ;) ((Otherwise they're for wussies lol))

cuda 01-02-2004 09:17 PM

I wish I had silent choice, it would have been nice to be able to listen to the radio when we were limping in yesterday.

we use silent choice made by Corsa on all of our boats here, however there are 2 types of silent choice, most guys worry that at speed the flaps will close and choke the motor, however you can have the option of having the flaps open all the time with the actuator closing them only when you want it closed!! those are the ones we use, however alot of people have the other one that is normally closed, using the acutator to hold them open. We dont have alot of areas here to idle, or near restaurants etc, big lakes, big ocean, so we have ours open for the most part, but very nice to be able to run the silent when coming into a harbour etc, but this way if the actuator fails, it stays OPEN not closed, so it wont choke the motor

Full Time Legal Exhaust Systems

QUICK & QUIET™ CORSA’s non-restrictive mufflers and silencers were developed for boats equipped with thru-hull, full-time open exhaust systems. They are the ideal solution for removing the harsh noise while retaining a distinctive rumble and maximum performance. Quick & Quiet™ systems include two patented transom-mounted ASR Silencer Tips and two ASR interior mufflers with a balance tube and are designed to retrofit existing full-time, thru-hull applications.

Keep Em'

KCHOTBOAT 01-03-2004 12:31 AM

LOUD for me and since you are at a condo keep it down. It will also help avoid the MO. water patrol.:D I am redoing my headers for dry.:D :D

Waterfoul 01-03-2004 12:12 PM

I'd go with the silent choice, especially since it's already in the boat. And, as was said before, the MO water patrol might leave you alone if they can't hear you as much. Your new boat is going to attract attention without being loud!!

LOL
Up your tailpipes. That's as loud as I can make it with that Silent Thunder still on. It will be coming off, soon as I can spring for a new set of "thru-hulls". The originals are only like 2 inches long. A few people actually complimented me on the sound, thank you.

Macklin 01-03-2004 03:52 PM

I have the Corsa Q&Q II on my boat. It's the sh*t. Makes those long no wakes zones more enjoyable.

pullmytrigger 01-03-2004 04:51 PM

Leave it on.....
Ive had it on two of the three boats Ive owned, really slick for warming the boat up or no wake zones.....wouldnt be without it......I guess if I lived on the ocean where there was little or no idling just open water running then maybe I might not have it......doug

pullmytrigger 01-03-2004 05:05 PM

you can have fun with it too......
was going through a lock one time and when the lock doors opened this old guy in a houseboat was first boat out and wasnt even on deck, he was still inside.......so he finally comes out and is taking his sweet time with the lines, holding everybody up........
I was getting a little tired of this so I reached down and opened the exhaust on the Donzi's 502s right in the lock!!....with all that cement around......VERY LOUD....
The old guy immediately starts rushing around like crazy and ends up on his azz and almost falls in....everybody laughs their heads off.......was funny.....doug :D ;)

FWK 01-03-2004 07:00 PM

Though i voted for loud I run full time mufflers at loto and with my wife in the boat. It is not worth being stopped for.or *****ed at cause the boat is to loud. It does have something to do with wher the exhaust exit on my boat also. I it comes out over the rub rail. When my son and I take the boat out on the river I take the mufflers out. I have to agree with that paint job you will attract more than enough attentio. Some of it unwanted. I would also keep them unless you are changing exhaust I would still have some type of muffler system. Beautiful boat congrats

105mph_38_2003 01-03-2004 07:10 PM

Loud is nice early in the day....But after a few hours sometimes your ears need a rest, or your passengers ears:cool:

I'd say keep it:)

ragtop409 01-04-2004 10:13 PM

got no damn silent choice here Rag's

open87 01-04-2004 10:16 PM

I don't see the humor!!! I guess you would have pissed your pants laughing if he fell in and got hurt. I guess you don't have parents, because you obviuosly don't have any respect for others. Think about it, if something like this happened to one of your parents!!! People like you make me sick!! Do us afavor Don't Have Kids!! And stay in Canada!!

stecz20 01-05-2004 02:02 AM

keep um. nice to have for start up in the morning, and in the no wake zones.

NJgr8ful 01-05-2004 02:54 AM

LOUD=41 :D
SILENT=33 :(

:D LOUD is louder lol!

Cord 01-05-2004 02:23 PM

If the new motor will support the silent choice with out reversion, then I'd keep it. I gotta admit, silent can be nice.
