What do you figure a fair price for that Apache would be? Looks good in the pics, but that is the easy part.

JnT 01-09-2004 11:00 PM

I believe the wild graphics are part of the allure of owning an Apache. Look at some of the crazy colors Dodge and Plymouth used on their muscle cars.Painting over the original graphics of a classic Apache is on par with painting over the graphics on a Superbee,or stripes of a Chevelle SS.Unless of course you want a sleeper!

spitfire1 01-10-2004 07:35 AM

I went to look at both Tatonka and Crazy horse last week at Mark Adams shop......both are very impressive ...however I dont think you will find a cleaner more original Apache 41 than Tatonka....that boat has been really well taken care of.....it also has Air conditioning....and from what I hear...the owner is pretty motivated to get rid of it as it is to small for him......I think you could make a deal on that one....

my favorite

OBNOXUS21 01-10-2004 08:06 AM

Out of those two, I would pick Broken Arrow.

Still, my favorite is Crazy Horse. Or HotDuck's because of the cockpit configuration.

I still think the two best deals out there are Ghost Runner(Stinson was drinking the night before, when he picked out the interior colour) and Allez Vite..which is flawless

I need a pleasure set up. Allez Vite is a great boat, but it doesn't work for me & the Wife.

Jack, do you have pics of dan's boats?

I'm also curious whattype of speed does Taktonka make

APACHES

Scalp I detailed both of the boats in question after they were at the MCMANUS display. They are awsome, the 47 is sweet but a 41 is a little more marketable down the road. I also did CRAZY HORSE, they are all nice boats. The latest 41 on boat trader is a sweet ride it's called LOW PROFILE it's not the one that TNT had for sale. It's never been publicly for sale before, this guy is the 2nd owner, she is a twin to S Gradys ONLY RUMMORS full kevlar. The colors are not blue like they come up on the computer, the transome and drives and dash are torquoise. You can't make a bad choice on any of these classic rides. Scalp I am sending you a PM or call me if you still have my number. Happy hunting. Steve

KAGEMAN

Todd's KAGEMAN is down by Sweers for sale, when looking at 41's make sure the front tank has been replaced or you will have a huge amount of cash leaving your wallet. Steve

Agreed! Or they would be sold.....buyers are patient, they know the Apache they are looking at isn't the last one that will come up for sale. So low price will trigger that predator instinct in a buyer and make a sale.

ON THE OTHER HAND YOU GOTTA PAY FO WHAT YOU WANT....MOST OF THESE BOAT ARE OVER 500K TO REPLACE, SO ANYTHING UNDER 25OK FOR A NICE APACHE THAT IS FRESH REDONE SEEMS LIKE A FAIR DEAL. HELL KEMOSABE WAS SOLD RECENTLY IN THAT NEIGHBORHOOD.

i just dont think you are going to find a nice deal for 75k:D

I suspect many people look at the opportunity cost when laying down this kind of money... It's hard to justify laying down $200,000 for a 15 year old boat when you can buy something much newer for the same money. Personally if I was in the market for something like this I'd strongly consider an Apache for the resale reasons alone. You have to remember it's a niche market and selling in a tight economy is tough for big money niche items...

Interesting perspective.....I am the type of person that enjoys buying quality and then I keep it. Especially with something like a 41 Apache. At almost 50 years old I have become patient. So, when I finally buy what I feel is the right Apache and 20 more summers go by people will say "Look at that old bastard in that nice boat".
If they look closer they will see something else.
I will still be smiling.

true, but buying something newer doesnt always mean that its better built...or does it?

resale value? well there is a whole lot for sale but none are selling so what kind of resale value os that... i think its more they hit a rock bottom level and wont go below that no matter the age

41

These boats run in big water so good that you will smiling ever time you pass someone. I have been out on NUATTI KITTYS 41 SABER a bunch of times and am shocked at the way it makes waves look and feel much smaller then they really measure. We ran over 80 in 6 footers with ease.

Although the argument can be made that an equally powered twin step top gun will run just as well in the rough and be faster. I recently ran against the Apache "Razz" in 4-5 footers with my Gun and we were pretty close, although he did pull me just a bit after about 4 miles...... but he has Zul 1000's through 3A's and I have HP500EFI's. His comment to me after wasthat he had never heard of a HP500 powered gun doing in the 90's!! (we were doing 82!) Anyways, I would buy an Apache for history and the quality, but if performance is the goal there are alot of other boats that eat big water with less power.

Ed 01-10-2004 12:39 PM

What About The 22' Apaches?...

From the mid to late 80's...I know Bob Saccenti built quite a few of them. Both I/O's & O/B's... Cool little boat. Ed:)

No, newer doesn't necessarily mean better quallity. Then again, quality being equal, who wouldn't want newer??? I don't want this to be taken the wrong way, but it's important to remember that these boats were built out of plywood, they will not last forever. Not saying that older Apache's aren't structurally sound, but the fact is they are built out of aging plywood.

Although most Apache's aren't selling, can you really say that any brand high dollar used boat is selling? Even Cig's aren't moving that well... better, but not well. Fact is it's all simple economics... people are asking too much for these older Apache's and the market doesn't warrant the big $$$. There is demand for them, but until the prices come down buyers will not consume.

I don't think anyone is going to question their ability in the rough stuff. This is not to say that they can't be beat, but all in all they they are really only known for their quality and rough water ride.
