Default Tow Vehicles- Toyota 4 Runner

Buying a Toyota 4 runner this weekend, just wondering if it is worth keeping, and using to tow a boat.

1986 with 67k miles (total on body and engine)
22RE 2.2 litre engine
5spd manual
4wd
owners manual says tows 3500
new paint, has a decent size dent on pass side in front of fender.

How good do these tow? I plan on replacing the panel where the dent is, interior is in good condition, might keep, goot road trip car, if it will pull alright.

Tommy:
I had a 92 and towed a 3800 pound boat, not including trailer and fuel. (Probably close to 5200 pounds). Did alright. Hills were SLOW but it worked and a good vehicle to own. Towed the boat over a mountain pass at 22 mph in a 65 mph zone. Down hills weren't bad at all! Tranny and everything held together fine for towing.
I bought mine used with 85000 miles, traded it in at 180k miles.

It was a good little truck. I must warn you though, I did get a speeding ticket in it!

You can get speeding tickets in anything. When I bought my ranger my first words were "This will stop me from getting a ticket it is so slow"

I plan to have a speed limiter put on a 58mph.

It will run forever,
the powertrain will probably
outlast the body ( rust)

It might be a little weak on
"steam" when towing much more than
lake lice

I've towed w/ lots of toyota's, it will tow fine , but the brakes will take a beating, ( pulse and stuff) especially the way you drive!

I had a 1987 in highschool, the top is removeable. I couldnt get it stuck. There is a 350conversion kit available for it.

Misil- Here is why I am buying an import.... Friends car, insurance totaled it for a dent, runs fine, drivable, not even a bad dent. Paying 200$. Selling the ranger, KBB is 4700, planning on getting 3700 or so. So, new nicer, lower mileage car, and 3k in my pocket.

Oh, and it is still a 2 door....Wonder if I can make it through life w/o owning a 4 door...
