Ford 6.0 Problems?

Has Ford cured their 6.0 problems yet?

I just sold my 2000 7.3 and was going to order a new one.

Pure Energy 01-17-2004 10:57 AM

I have an 03 and have no problems. You will always hear more negative info than positive. I personally cannot answer you question acurately, but I will say I am very happy with my truck.

Check out the 6.0 forums on www.thedieselstop.com

Dusty Times 01-17-2004 11:26 AM

Thats good news.

Hey Troutly,
Do you pull your 382 with an F-350? I just bought a 38 Donzi and pulled it once with my 7.4 to Havasu before I sold it. Seemed to do fine.

boatfreak 01-17-2004 03:47 PM

I just drove in the driveway with my new 04 f-350 supercab lariat 6.0 so I hope they have.
By the way I have an 97 psd 350 to get rid of.:D

buck183 01-17-2004 04:46 PM

My 03 Crew Cab, Short Bed, FX4, Lariat has about 5,700 miles on it since I purchased it in August.

I have had what I consider two MAJOR problems with the truck. They're big enough to gripe about IMO.

1) I absolutely hate the payment!!!
2)It will outrun any stock Diesel currently made.

Other than those two complaints I have nothing to gripe about.

i'm thinking of getting a new 6.0 myself, my dad has a new 6.0 and ive been pretty impressed, although i don't think it is as powerful as my 2002 250 with a modified 7.3, i think stock may work with the new truck. just not sure i want to start over again with the payment thing.

BRUCE SEROFF 01-17-2004 06:31 PM

does Ford offer 0.% financing on these trucks??

Dusty Times 01-17-2004 06:34 PM

1.9% for 36 months was the best I was quoted today.

Kinda bumbed. I was hoping for 0%

BRUCE SEROFF 01-17-2004 06:37 PM

yeah...me too for 48 months or more:mad:

Troutly, I have an 04 f-250. I just got the airbags installed today, along with the the Bullydog 3 stage chip. The chip is unbelievable on the 3rd setting. It breaks the tires at half throttle. I don't know if the transmission will hold up if you gas it regularly. Does the airbags help with the sway you get when you pass an 18 Wheeler or they pass you. How much does your boat weigh. Mine weighs about 15,000lbs when loaded I'm thinking of getting a dually, but I wanted to try this as a last option. Thanks for your reply.

Pure Energy 01-17-2004 07:46 PM

3 stage Bullydog? Is it new? I have their 2 stage, 70/115 and my truck is a rocket from 0-70. What HP is the 3rd stage, 135?

t.rae 01-17-2004 09:02 PM

No I've got the same one you have I think. It's a little toggle switch with three positions. 50-70-115. You get 50 for having it installed, the middle setting gives you 70, the last setting gives the 115. How long have you had yours installed? Any problems? Do you have to take it out for service? Thanks.

Dusty, I bought mine back in May last tear its a 350 dually 4 X 4. Crew cab Lariat. I traded my 01 Dodge for it after looking at the new 4 door Cab Dodge came out with. And driving the new Cummins. There were no diffrences in the power from 01 -03. The cab design sucked. The Ford out pulls the Dodge any day of the week. I have had some idling trouble, and it has stalled on me a few times. But overall a great engine tranny package. It will pull the 47 at 75-80 very comfortably. But like troutly said it has a little sway to it and it sags a little. The Dodge was more stable, But they ride on the springs heavier than the Fords. My .02 get the Ford 6.0

Pure Energy 01-18-2004 08:29 AM

t.

I have over 8,000 miles and no problems. I have not had to go back to the dealer yet, but it is easy to remove. I also gutted the cat, removed the muffler and have dual pipes coming straight out the back. Sounds awsome!!

Audiofn 01-18-2004 08:41 AM

Mark and Troutly. You complained of sag in the back. Do you guys know what springs you have? I am going to replace the ones in the back of my truck soon and I have the ones that are lighter then the X springs and I think I am going to go with the X springs in the back.

R Addiction 01-18-2004 09:06 AM

That is correct!!! NOT!!!! When are we headin'south?

BF28, I went to dinner with the original owner of your boat last night. He is boatless at the moment. :)

KiloKat 01-18-2004 12:04 PM

I have an '03 F350 with the 6.0 and had problems around 10,000 miles. Ford installed a new '04 engine (new style injectors and ECU program) and it has been absolutely awesome. The five speed auto works great for towing and it's hard to beat the ride of the crew cab dually.

Dusty Times 01-18-2004 12:05 PM

Troutly,
Would you suggest the air bags instead of the camper package overloads or both?

I ordered my 2000 F-250 with max GVW front springs and it brought it to almost level height in the front and wasn't to stiff.

Sydwayz 01-18-2004 01:56 PM

You cannot go wrong with airbags. They are infinately adjustable.

R Addiction 01-18-2004 05:29 PM

:hothead: Troutman...I used to like you!!;)

i have 11000 mile and 2 re flases and bad gas millage and slipping trans and loud noises when it starts up my lawyer is working with ford we will see the ne 6.0 are ok they say. from 1/14/2004

Havasu Cig 01-20-2004 10:06 AM

Ford just took back our 03 Excursion with the 6.0. It had many problems...

I just towed our Top Gun this past weekend for the first time with our 04 2500 HD with the Duramax and love it. It pulls a little better off the bottom than the 6.0, the suspension is better (compared to the X, My F-350 felt about the same), and the brakes are definitely better.

Good luck getting yours taken back. It took about 3 months for Ford to come through with our check.
