Sonic v. Donzi
Who wants to weight in?
Whattaya like better, Sonic or Donzi? |
I know Sonics so my vote is there. I have never seen a better built boat. Not saying its better than other premium boats out there , but it's certainly not worse.
|
Donzi builds a nice boat, but I think Sonic is more bang for the buck.

I think the SONIC is a better built boat.
Donzi has had more than their share of problems in the past. |
DONZI NEVER HEARD OF THEM
SONIC IS IT.. 2002 31SS FOR SALE LOOK IN THE CLASSIFIEDS 5TH BOAT ON THE LIST.. |
Allright, I'll step up for the Donzi. 38 ZR is a bad mo fo....and built well.....not that sonics aren't ....just leave that damn radar arch off the damn boat.....its ugly....same power....donzi may be faster....who's to say? did pretty well in APBA past 2 years tho...Granted, I'm a Donzi owner tho....:)
|
APACHE 100% :p

BTW,
Donzi was designed by the same guy, what's his name?, that designed APACHE! |
I like the sonics for the floss space they allow on the sun pad and the stand up head room in the bigger boats, with a good price tag as well. Oh I don't own either or
|
Two very good boats but you know my pick.
|
I agee with Quietstorm about 2 good boats, but not his pick;) What can I say, I like my Donzi.
|
What Troutly said ...though the sunpads on the sonics are small for the length of the boat (except the 42'/45') because the cockpit is pushed so far back. I know, I took measurements as I shopped these boats last year before I bought the Formula. The 35' sonic was also very tight at the helm...very small, again 'cause there trying to provide a bolster/bench/sunpad interior in less % of the boat length than almost everything else. Total turn off.

I guess we could all argue the Pro's and Con's of both Boats, Style, Quality, Room, Construction, but your the one thats going to be laying down the "Cake" for it!!!
Go to the Plants, check out the Construction, Go for a Ride and Drive,, Who takes care of you the Best,, Warranty?? Who returns your Phone Calls?? 5 or 10 years down the Road, which one is still Solid, any Spider Cracks??? most return Customers??? My Buddy here at Ky. Lake Owns the New 46 Sonic,, I think its his Third Sonic,, its the First Sonic with a Staggered Set-up,, Its Awesome!! although I've never seen or Driven the 45 Donzi!!! Here's a few Pic's of Randy's Boat<< |

I'll Pay for this one!!
1 Week in Key West with your Friends , $3000.00 Gas and Bar Bill , $2000.00 Average Dinner Bill , $100.00 Towing the Worlds Biggest and Fasest and Most Expensive, Sonic back to Port ? PRICELESS!!!!!!!:D :D :D |
:p THAT'S GREAT!
|
Lots of good stuff here, though pretty predictable.
Sonic guys like Sonic, Donzi guys like Donzi. Scott B: Gorgeous boat. Feel free to post more pix. thedonz: Do you really not know who designed the Sonic and Apache hulls? And Formula. And Donzi. And Cigarette. And pretty much every deep vee out there. I assumed you were kidding, but if you're not.... I'll say this about Sonic; if you ordered anything from them before the personnel change, you better check and see if it ever got ordered. |
This type of debate can go on forever, the bottom line is you are the one who has to sign your name on the dotted line and it is you who must make the choice. They are both great boats and I'm sure what ever one you choose you will have tons of fun with it, good luck in your search.
|
I like them both. But I'll probably buy another Sonic. 7 years of pounding the crap out of it on Lake Ontario and no stress cracks or loose components.
|
Sonic. At least they will take care of you if there is a problem.
Donzi, you'll have to fight tooth and nail to get anything fixed under warranty. Thier customer service leaves alot to be desired. |

I have owned two sonics and they both were great. The company has also made a turn for the best in the new layups, seem much better than mine. Good Luck.
|
Macklin: I was looking a tthe 38's and up, didnt check the 35 outs.

I like the resale of a Donzi and the solid ride. They also have a great new choice of paint jobs

I think Dave P disagrees.:D
|
And oh yea. I saw the 38 t/s Cig in Powerboat Mag. What a beautiful boat. I was suprised at the price with the fairly tame power. That boat with the same power as my 386 is 8 mph faster.
I wonder what the difference in ride is between a 42 step and the 38 t/s? |
