So what kind of power do the 572's make? What speeds do you realistically expect?

Thank you Fred, they make 700 hp, 650 lb of torque , 85 to 90, will be doing a see trial tomorrow. ;)

Don't, been there done that. Fred your boats too big and big fairly heavy straight V's need the operating range that only pressure gives ya. NOBODY would run blowers on these things if they didn't have to

I know this boat is light and efficient with the #3's but anything over 85mph will be guite an accomplishment with 1400 hp.

BTW I've tried 650 CI naturals trying to get away from blowers, great dyno #'s and sucked in the boat. NOBODY HATES BLOWERS MORE THAN ME

SS930 02-18-2004 07:04 AM

Jack,
I doubt they'll see 95 mph with the NA motors. I'd say they will be very lucky to break 90.

My 2 cents.

The unfortunate part of doing this for many years ( and writing the checks) is living with the results vs. the expectations. And as my father told me time and time again there is no such thing as magic......so far he has been right ;) GPS's took the magic ( and some of the fun) out of performance boating....damn it :D

BTW My boat weighs under 10,000lbs. and when I add four of my fat buddys ( call it 900lbs over me and my wife) we only loose about 2 -3 mph on top end. Weight is a factor but....

lucy 02-18-2004 07:51 AM

Wickedwon, your father is a smart man.! I really enjoy the thrill of the ride at any speed.

Amen on both points, have fun :D

SS930 02-18-2004 09:08 AM

Jack,
The 800's are SC's (super charged)... 95 sounds like a very feasible number.

The new engines they tossed in are not super charged engines, they're naturally aspirated (NA)... they won't have the torque to pull the boat up past 90 IMO.

GLH 02-18-2004 09:30 AM

Is MM doing the Poker Run with this rig?

If you've only got $.02, use them wizely. I PERSONALLY have been in that boat MANY times on lake Michigan, and I know for fact that I have seen 95-96 on the speedo. I have also ran side by side with them, and my GPS also showed 95-96. The GPS's can't be wrong. To pull away, I needed to run atleast 97-98. And BTW, the 800 SC's only make a touch over 700 hp, but they make 800 #'s of torque. I have the build sheets on the new motors, 580 inches of top quality components. And I also have the dyno sheets at our shop. From what I remember, they made 692 hp at about 5400 or 5500, and 680 torque at 4200 take or leave a couple #'s. They're only losing 20 hp per side, but 100 # on the torque. I am SURE they will only see a 2-3 MPH loss from the 800 SC's.

And another BIG BTW: I KNOW you would'nt have such smarta$$ comments toward Ben, if he was lookin you in the eye. Remember, be careful what you say, because someday, you just might have that chance. S T R A N G E things are happening!#*!#*

Isn't there some confusion here.....

Looks like some people are talking about NATURALlY ASPIRATED engines (NA) meaning without blowers or turbos. Like the one's Mark and Lucy just put in the boat.

Then some other people are calling the Merc 800SC's Naturally Aspirated (NA) which they obviously are not since they are blown.

Don't want to get in the middle but I think there is some confusion here.

NA = No blowers. (See my avatar)
SC = Blowers.

I know you all know this already. Maybe I am confused...

I'm out.

So Mr. know so much,
If the boat ran 95 with the 800SC's, you think it will still run 95 with the new NA motors? NO! Like you and I both stated, it will loss some speed. I guessed a 5 mph loss, you guessed 3mph... regardless, the point I made was the boat will not do the same speed (95) that it did with the SC engines! Reread the thread before you spout out more crap!

And another BIG BTW: I WOULD tell Ben he should be in the big house for life for his crimes and I'd happily say it to his face and not think twice about it! I hope I never do have the chance to say anything to his face, not because I'm in the least bit afraid of him, but because I think he should rot in the can for his crimes. IMO he should face up to the crimes he's commited and not cry about it. That's MY opinion, you obviously have yours and that's fine. Go sell some "free Ben" Tee shirts if that's how you feel. Good luck. BUT, that's not what thread is about.

Sorry Lucy, I didn't want to chit on your thread.
